hursday,Do you ever wonder why America initiated and then dominated the oil exploration and discovery industry. Its because Thomas Jefferson decided that along with the monarchy, the aristocrats and landed titles, the American Revolution would also throw out the (literally) medieval notion that although a man could own his own land, what was under it belonged to the king.

Interesting...

In California I heard you can’t invent or build
anything new unless it passes some environmental “test”

This will send America to third world status faster than you can say “Change” “Hope” and “Believe” lol

One thing I am unclear on, can’t you end up finding out that you do not own the mineral rights under your land? Or that just in one or two states?

Some of the early deeds in NY DO mention mineral rights. I think it was tied to the patent of the first proprietor. It does not seem to be a constant.

"Reserved" has always been a tricky term.

I’m no expert. I suspect people can enact any contract they agree to. What does your contract say? I suspect, once again, that there are customary practices. For example, one might buy land and have mineral rights, even though it is not stated in the contract. Maybe someone else on FreeRepublic knows. If not, you might want to do an internet search (google, yahoo, excite, etc.) to find out.
