Carl Scarbrough runs the Atomic Trades and Labor Council. He also is accused of raping a 13 year old boy last week. Tuesday, a union spokesman said their boss will stay on the job while the legal system runs its course.
"Everything is being looked at," said Union Secretary Kenny Cook. "Everything is still alleged at this point."
The criminal complaint against Scarbrough accuses him of fondling a 13 year old in the steam room of Fort Sanders Health and Fitness, 270 Fort Sanders West Blvd, then performing a sex act on the teenage boy.
Scarbrough faces a statutory rape charge and is out on bond. Attempts to reach him by phone and at his home were unsuccessful.
"Naturally anytime you hear something like this, you're concerned" said Cook. "That's why an investigation is ongoing, and we'll work through that."
Scarbrough is President of the Atomic Trades and Labor Council, which oversees 2500 workers at Y-12 and ORNL in Anderson County.
"The president is currently on vacation. In his absence, by the constitution, the first vice president takes his place," said Cook. "Upon his return from vacation, he'll assume duties."
Scarbrough is currently not allowed inside Y-12 pending investigation. While Cook would not comment on that decision, he says the union's decision to keep Scarbrough on the clock is one that follows standard policy.
If the union's investigation uncovers any wrongdoing, a board could remove Scarbrough from office, though Cook stresses it is far to early to determine if that ever happens.
"There will be an investigation, and we'll wait for those results," Cook said.
Also, in a statement released Tuesday, Fort Sanders Health and Fitness says they are cooperating with police in the investigation and are confident in their security measures for its membership.
"In addition to a dedicated, full-time staff and on-site security guards," said spokeswoman Kathy Graham, "Fort Sanders Health and Fitness Center has complete access to the 24-hour service of the security department on the Fort Sanders West campus."

Stat rape almost ALWAYS meant, older man, underage girl. Five percent of the time, it meant, older woman, underage boy.
NOW, thanks to the pervert agenda, it just means, uh... under the age of consent. Notice how they race right past the same-sex part.
And why isn't this guy being charged with child molestation?
And what the hell is a 13-year-old doing in a steam room at an adult fitness center?
I have many more questions, but the answers all come down to: They have succeeded in "normalizing" homosexuality. It's just sex...sex is sex.
