Tancredo wins 6th Congressional battle
Rocky Mountain ^ | 11/07/2006 | Charley Able

Posted on 11/07/2006 10:19:10 PM PST by NapkinUser

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo won Colorado’s 6th Congressional District, beating Democratic challenger Bill Winter.

Tancredo, a Republican often at odds with his own party and seeking a fifth term , has gained a nationwide reputation as a staunch opponent of the rising influx of illegal immigrants in the country. Tancredo supports dramatically increased border security and a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, as well as penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants.

Winter, a 10-year veteran of the Navy and Marine Corps, championed veterans’ rights and universal health care, and endorsed President Bush’s call for a guest-worker program and economic development in Latin America as a means of stemming the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.

The 6th District spans parts of Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, Jefferson and Park counties. It is home to 498,000 registered voters.

Tancredo is an idiot.

He is one of the main reasons the party got divided. He pushed a message of division. Division Of The Party!!!!!

Not to mention he is full of shit. When chances to push votes on amendments and legislation to have real immigration reform....he went to the leadership and asked them to table it.

He is one of the main reasons the party got divided.

Never let the fact that the president has signed every stitch of leftist legislation put together by congressional democrats cloud your judgement.

The socialist land grabs approved by the white house, the corporatist fascist SPP, the three amigos signing their 'agreement' to create a 'security perimeter'nee new border around Canda Mexico and the US, clearly defying the United States Constitution didn't have anything to do with it you say?

It takes a skunk to win. What good does this guy do even being there? All he did was condem the pres, now he can sit in the minority while the demos court the very people he condemed mainly the hispanic vote. It figures this guy would win all he did was condem his own party to the hills and the pres of his own party. It is good for a rat to join the rats. His issue is doa dead in the water and if he runs for president I won't vote for the first time in my life. Crossed eyed Tom can sit alone. That goes for Mccain too.

Have fun learn Spanish now you will need it.

on the subject of illegal immigration, Tancredo was 100% correct and the mainstream GOP blew it, as evident tonight. Not supporting the minutemen did not sit well.

oh yea... and condemning a republican for not dealing with the issue brought in more illegals?? how'd you establish that logic? and btw, the 'demos' were already here. the 'new' demos were the republicans that switched sides because they didn't like the gop behaving like dems.

as for learning spanish, by not standing up against it, i would assume you along with the rest of the turn-a-blind-eye gop were already signing up for lessons.

A conservative won in Colorado on a Democratic night. That says something for the power of the conservative message. It wins when its tried. The GOP didn't try hard enough to be faithful to conservative principles. That's why it lost.

Tom Tancredo is conservative kind of like Maxine Waters is liberal.

Neither do their party any good. Matter of fact, they do a lot more to derail their own cause then help it.

I suppose being true to your beliefs is harmful to your side? Ask the losing RINOs what their pandering to the Left obtained for them. They are now unemployed, now that their usefulness to the Democrats can be dispensed with. Such are the wages of treason.

If being 'true to your beliefs' includes bashing the possibility of increased 'legal' immigration, then yes, it's harmful to the conservative cause.

solve illegal immigration by just raising the number of immigrants you let in? brilliant!

but then... why have immigration limits at all, if you keep raising the bar to let more and more in. (and folks are wondering why the GOP lost some of its base...)

Tom Tancredo did as much to get the bill passed to build a fence and to put the breaks on amnesty as anyone in Washington.

Like the strength of his voice or not, he brought the issue to the forefront.

You could argue that Jeff Sessions did so less caustically, but there's not doubting who kept the pressure on the White House.

See, you are a walking example of someone who just doesn't get it. This isn't an anti-illegal-immigration view, it's an anti-immigration view, and it's a big part of why good folks like JD Hayworth went down tonight. Americans like things done legally, but they don't mind Mexicans in general, they like them, and they don't mind more of them coming as long as they have jobs.

I personally like free markets. If we allow the amount of legal immigrants to be set to supply = demand, we won't have a serious problem. What's more, we can focus on real threats, like terrorists and drug dealers, because those folks who just want to come and pick fruit can do so legally.

Tancredo has got it. That's why he won. The GOP lost because it wobbled over immigration. The GOP base is still white, and whites don't want to live in the US of Mexico. It is that simple.

No it is not. If the Whitehouse pushes a shamnesty through the congress, it will push a enough conservatives off the reservation that they can forget abotu 2008. It is time to run to the base not away from it.

Hello, the pressure is history. Now he is toast the demos do not need this guy and could care less. If you think the demos are going to anything about the very same people who put them in office yesterday , you are sadly mistaken. Buchanan is now history , his words attacking the reps mean nothing, Tencredo is just a guy the demos will sit in the corner and laugh at, and of course Coulter they no longer need her to condem the White House , face it they all went down with the ship. If you think that only the canidates lost last night you are sadly mistaken. That includes a lot of conservative talk show hosts and conservative talk radio. Learn Spanish, and get ready for impeachment that is next.OH one more thing I voted conservative, too bad you guys could not get your votes to the polls. How does it feel to shoot your foot off?

"BTW, you do know that two of Tancredo's biggest followers lost big last night, J.D Hayworth and Randy Graf."

Everyone knew Randy Graf wasn't going to win (neither would Huffman or anyone else back in that primary, at the very least a message was sent.) Losing J.D. Hayworth hurts, such a great man and speaker, right on so many issues.

Are you happy about that Dane? Plus you might want to actually look at the results before you called Hayworth's lose "big." It was somewhat of a squeaker.

P.S.: Brian Bilbray and Jean Schmidt, both very strong on illegal immigration and thought to be in close races, won.

The fight goes on. Tancredo won. Though your donation to socialist Bill Winter was welcomed by him.

Yeah... because that has worked so well in the past.

We need a change of GOP leadership. Find someone with a SPINE and a record of conservative principles who's not afriad to spit in the liberals eyes and boot the RINO's poisoning the party.

Since that isn't going to happen, we'll get a full court press from the GOP and the Lame Stream Media for a poll driven McCain ticket.

This will ensure a Hillary/Obama win in 2008.

If you know a way around that, let me know. Because absent a major sea change towards smaller government Constitutionalism, I don't see it happening.
