Boys used racial slurs
York Daily Record ^ | 5/13/08 | Angie Mason

Posted on 05/13/2008 5:36:19 AM PDT by Nextrush

Police said four white students at Central York Middle School used racial slurs and harrassed a black student while they rode home on a school bus Friday afternoon.

Springettsbury Township Police were called to the school Monday morning to investigate a report of harrassment on the bus.

The 13-year old white boys "verbally and physically harrassed and intimidated" a 13-year old black boy, using racial slurs as the bus took the students home, police said.

Julie Randall Romig, spokeswoman for the Central York School District, said the district was notified of the harrassment. She declined to discuss details of what happened.

"The Central York School District does not tolerate any form of harrassment or intimidation, including those forms that are racially or ethnically motivated," Romig said, reading a statement. "The district has policies and procedures outlined in its student code of conduct that clearly outline this behavior as unacceptable and subject to discipline."

The district addressed the situation in accordance with policy and the student code of conduct and called police, according to the statement.

The four students were identified and disciplined, Romig said. The district does not discuss disciplinary action taken against students.

Police released a statement that said the department "is appalled at the fact that such abhorrent activity still permeates our commmunity in the 21st Century."

Police are still investigating.

Looks like this school district's "diversity" program is having the desired effect of stirring up racial animosity and creating conflict.

Central York School District in the middle of a three-year district wide "diversity" program as I have noted in some vanity posts that detail the program.

With all the incidents of violence including fights where police have been called to the various schools near where I live, this incident becomes a big thing.

With all the teacher sex incidents in school districts around here in recent years, including Central York, the police come out to say they are "appalled" about the bad words used by students.

They never said that about student fights or teacher-students sex incidents.

Are we becoming a society where words used to hurt people are a more serious offense that sexual molestation or acts of violence?

Police may charge these students with some sort of "ethnic intimidation" offense.

Jackie Robinson broke into Major League Baseball when these laws did not exist. He took those slurs from the stands 60 years ago and overcame them.

Well times have changed and now we live in The Nanny State.

The school as schools have always done should discipline students for bad language, but when the state gets involved prosecuting people for racial language, that's when I say "Hail Nanny."

Oh for God’s sake. The GD police don’t investigate a white boy being called a cracker. Why the hell are they getting involved when the tables are turned!? I know the answer but damn!

To point out other perceived injustices and question the importance of picking one type to make a big deal of doesn’t negate the fact that the behavior is wrong. I do wish however that occassionally we would see black on white hate speech highlighted in public media and shown to be wrong too.

I’ve seen stuff written on public bathroom walls that uses people’s names and calls them “KKK.”

Calling people “KKK” seems pretty nasty to me.

But the problem isn’t uneven enforcement of laws, its the whole notion that racial and ethnic words are criminal.

Once the notion that words are criminal is implanted, there is no telling where the notion will end.

They’ll put us in jail for calling Robert Byrd “Sheets” Byrd.

The First Amendment will end up as toilet paper.

On NPR this morning they profiled a nice old gentleman who had worked for the federal government for many decades. Knew Strom Thurmond, LBJ, etc. He'd been offered a job by a white senator in 1944 -- pretty unusual since he was a poor black kid from North Carolina (I think).

Anyway, at one point in the interview he said that he had occasionally been called names, "But that didn't hurt me."

You could hear the interviewer's jaw hit the floor: "It didn't hurt you?? How -- How can you say that???"

Nowadays, sticks and stones are no big deal -- but apparently there's nothing worse than being called a name.

I don’t think people should use that language in school to describe other people.

But the state must not proscute citizens including minors for using those words.

That’s when the line is crossed and the protection of the First Amendment is chipped away.

My daughter has to endure the blacks vocal racist attacks every day she rides the bus. It would take more than an act of Congress to get the school bus drivers and administration to act upon and correct the racist black kids.

I am sickened to hear the blacks whine every time a white kid farts in their direction.

Personally, I’ve reached a point where my good will is spent. I really don’t give a damn if someone uses a racial slur against someone (that being said, if my 5 year old son were to use the word “nigger”, he would have a difficult time sitting). It just doesn’t bother me anymore. As a white guy, I’m sick and tired of minorites (and perceived minorities) crying wolf for money, fame, power etc...Calling the police to school because someone was called a name? Seriously, if the same rules were applied across the board and non-whites were held to the same racial standards, we would quickly see an end to this bullshit....

Off topic, but I saw BB King perform live a few nights ago. 82 years-old and the most gracious performer I’ve ever seen. He talked more than he played and told anecdotes from his life.

One of the first things he did was to dedicate the evening to the audience, their parents and grandparents as they are the ones who brought about changes that made the world a better place from the one he was born into in the Mississippi Delta in 1925.

He said a great confusion in his life once came from the times he used to sneak into a public park at night and drink from the white water fountain. “I couldn’t undertand it. That white water tasted just like the colored water”.

Also, he said he “didn’t like the way the rappers today are treating the ladies, that is wrong”.

Like I said, it’s off topic but a great example of a man who lived through and forgave the racism of the past and doesn’t participate in the victimization and race baiting that is so common today.

Only whites are punished when using racial slurs or what not. Blacks get away with it ALL the time.

I went to a racially mixed high school and nearly all of the racist name-calling came from the blacks towards the whites. Nothing happened to them of course and the police wasn’t called.

Its unclear whether the kid or the bus driver notified the authorities. In any case what used to be a case of bad manners is now turned into a huge incident. Seeing how these acts are now simply a weapon used only against whites, any sympathy I used to have is gone.

“I am sickened to hear the blacks whine every time a white kid farts in their direction.”

This will be nasty, but black people are the most spoiled and pampered race on this planet. Never held responsible for their actions, handed everything to advance themselves on a platter, and if they feel uncomfortable about anything all they need do is whine and people will scramble to accommodate them.

Most of you on this thread have never heard of this, so I’ll let you know:
I attended an inner city school that had a day called “cracker day”. It wasn’t marked on the calendar........ so we’d be in class and all of a sudden word would spread that the day was “cracker day”. On that day anyone that wasn’t black would get beat up and if you were black and didn’t join in you’d get beat up too.

I never joined in on beating up anyone, so I was always scared of being beat to near death by dozens of kids partaking in the insanity. Even though I’m black, the memory of “cracker day” still makes my heart beat fast from the fear I felt back then.

Some people like BB King have lived long enough to see great changes come to the society and a change of mind and heart. Others born after the struggles are brought up with stories of how bad it was and realize they can play the victim and make others jump. They also have an excuse to shrug their shoulders when someone asks how they are doing.

Wanda Sykes on Ellen talking about Sally Kern and voting for either Barack or Hillary. If Obama becomes president, then Black folk will have run out of excuses.

Another funny story he told was how he used to try so hard to impress the ladies back in his day. “I’d tell them how good they looked, pitch my line and they’d turn me down and walk away. Now when I tell them they look good, they pinch my cheeks and say ‘BB, you are so cute!’...Why couldn’t they have done that 50 years ago?”

“Personally, I’ve reached a point where my good will is spent.”

So is mine. Of all the races, black people seem more interested in requiring people to pave the way for them and then complaining for more.

“I’m sick and tired of minorites (and perceived minorities) crying wolf for money, fame, power etc...”

I know. Of all the races though, Asians seem to be the most diciplined and hard working. They couldn’t care less about their race, all they do is concentrate on achievement. They aren’t all over the place raging about racism, they’re taking over our universities.

“if the same rules were applied across the board and non-whites were held to the same racial standards, we would quickly see an end to this bullshit....”

“Cracker” has many, many interpretations, but with regard to the negative/derogatory context in which it is used as an epithet primarily in the South of the U.S. by Blacks towards Whites it appears to generally mean:

Lying, lowlife, uneducated, (person) and other meanings generally in line with those thoughts.

I remember in my youth munching my saltine with Peanut Butter and asking my Southern born Great Grandmother about the term as it had been used in my presence, and I thought I was eating one. She responded something to the effect of the above, told me to shut up and go out and play in the yard. I just took some time to look up the term and found it similar to her explanation of somewhere in the vicinity of fifty years ago.

She is ok, no physical violence, but she was very frightened. Seems a black boy was interested in her and the black girls were not happy about that. My daughter is 12 YEARS OLD. This is middle school we are talking about. The girls had their first strike for bullying. After three strikes, they go to alternative school. I can say that our county doesn’t tolerate bullying.

But race was never brought up. Only bullying. If the situation was reversed, they would have claimed a near lynching for God sake. I know children who got suspended for the N word. But that apparently is the only bad no no word apparently.
