Four white teenagers from Central York Middle School allegedly used racial slurs while verbally and physcially harrassing a black student Friday.
Springettsbury Township police officers were called at about 9 a.m. Monday to the 1950 North Hills Road middle school to receive a report of the incident, according to a department news release.
School officials said the incident happened while the students were riding home from school on a bus Friday, according to police.
The four white 13-year old male students who verbally and physically harrassed and intimidated the 13-year old black male student will soon be facing charges, police said.
"Bullies: "They were just being bullies," said Springettsbury Township Police Lt. Scott Laird.
Police are still mulling over what charges the boys should face, Laird said. The boys names will not be released because they are going to be charged as juveniles.
The students have already been disciplined by the district per its code of student conduct, said district spokeswoman Julie Randall Romig. She declined to discuss specifics because of privacy concerns.
"The Central York School District does not tolerate any form of harrassment or intimidation, including those forms that are racially or ethnically motivated," Romig said in a statement. "The district has policies and procedures outlined in its student code of conduct that clearly define this behavior as unacceptable and subject to discipline."
Police plan charges in the case.
The school district in question though has had racial language used on stage back in the fall of 2006 when a "tolerance troupe" from Selinsgrove High School (PA) peformed there.
When the troupe performed at the Central York High School and used racial language that angered students in the audience (they shouted and made noise in response to it because they were upset), the police didn't end up coming around to investigate or file charges. A police officer is assigned to the school. I wonder if the officer witnessed the assembly where this happened.
The story was written up in the school newspaper when it happened.
Comments in repsonse to the "York Daily Record" story online speak of white students being harrassed with racial language by black students and no punishment resulting.
They also speak of school officials contacting parents over things like an elementary school girl calling another child "the brown boy."
The Central York School District in involved in a three-year program of "cultural diversity" training for its staff.
I have some details about the training that include the speaker (Dr. W. Terrell Jones of Penn State University) telling staff that some things they see other people do that scare them or may seem wrong are really "cultural differences."
May this be why only white students end up getting disciplined by the school as is alleged? Is it because of this diversity training in the school district.?
This is ridiculous. I was bullied in school by blacks, hispanics, whites, etc. Not once did I ever even consider calling the police. Nor did the school.
The old "It's a black thang -- you wouldn't understand" ploy, eh chief?"
3 Arrested After Teen Attacked at Forrest High
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville high school student was recently beaten and battered at school by three students he said he didn't even know. Witnesses to the attack told police Forrest High School sophomore Karl Koch Jr. was targeted because of the color of his skin. "They started closing in, and all I remember is getting hit," Koch said. Koch's wrist was shattered and six screws and a plate now hold it together. He also has nine stitches above his right eye. Two 15-year-old students and one 17-year-old student were taken into police custody and charged with aggravated battery in connection to the attack. "I just seen them around school a few times and never really talked to them," Koch said. According to the police report, one of the suspects said, "Look at the white boy, he looks like a victim," before punching Koch in the eye. The report states all three attackers began kicking Koch and then laughed and ran away from the scene. "It seems like he was picked out just because was the only white boy in the crowd," said the victim's father, Karl Koch Sr. He said when he arrived at the school paramedics had already put his son in an ambulance. "When I got to ambulance, it was a whole different story. His eye was split open, there was blood everywhere," said Koch Sr. The Koch family said they said they hope the three students responsible get what they deserve. "I want to see them get the penalty -- the stiff penalty -- for this and what they did to my boy," said Koch. A school district official said the three students arrested could be expelled, but said the school board would decide on a punishment.
Such as using racial epithets while bullying?
Oh, that's right. This only cuts one way.
Btw, when I see the word "slur" used as it is in this article, it makes me want to pull the legs off a toad. "Slur" is a musical term.
Are kids, parents and school administrators that wimpy today?
Gee, I wonder if black youths have ever made racial slurs to white kids while beating them and taking their money? Probably not. I'm sure the MSM would have alerted us if it had happened.
Used racial slurs, oh my. That’s certainly MUCH worse than any of the other miriad of names kids call each other when they get into an altercation. (sarc tag in case it is needed)
Notice how the outrage is MORE over the “racial slurs” than over the bullying.
Notice how there is NEVER an article about Whites being subjected to beating while being called “cracker” or “honkey”.
Equal opportunity for bullies, eh? As a child, I was bullied by everyone equally, too... lol. In the old days, you were on your own at recess and on the schoolbus. These days, kindergarteners are arrested by the police. Schools went from one extreme (doing nothing to help) to the other (calling the police). The adults in charge don't seem to be able to handle these things.
In the Biblical sense we go from being Pharisees to Sadducees and back the other way again.
I was bullied a lot in school. My fifth grade teacher gave a passionate talk about bullying one day. She was such a liberal do-gooder.
It affected the students who weren’t bullies so much that when the bullies came up to me they were grabbed and pushed across the playground. It was like a washing machine as they agitated the bullies towards the playground assistants.
I felt embarrassed by the whole thing but that’s what happens when liberalism touches an emotional spot in people.
They become a mind numbed mob.
But that's crazy. That was a serious crime they committed against you. The police should have been notified.
I know no one wants to hear it, but there’s only one solution to these problems at school: Education should be a service/product sold in the private sector where there is more competition. That way, parents can pick and choose, the bad schools will fail and close down, and the good schools can dismiss the bad students.
Were they being niggardly?
Not in the least ... they were very generous in handing out their punishments. ;o)
One of my friends got into hot water when his little 6-year-old daughter described another child as the “brown kid”. Not with venom or hate, but describing a child whose name she did not know.
This PC correctness is getting out of hand. When you can’t even relay someone’s exact physical characteristics it is pathetic. (by all accounts the child was both brown AND a kid - probably a BOY too - imagine using that “slur”!)
I hope everyone on this planet who gets offended by these little things ends up as a total failure in everything they do - it’s what they damn deserve for blaming everyone else.
Are there double standards? Maybe the authorities could explain in detail what slurs are a chargeable offense.
There are tens of thousands of words in the English language with multiple meanings. What is it about slur that sets you on the path of engaging in animal cruelty?
By the way, the primary meaning of the word relates to a way of pronouncing words, and not a musical performance technique.
Nothing about the word itself. But this particular usage of the word usually appears in the company of political correctness, and that definitely sets me off. Be very glad that I will settle for mere animal sacrifices.
People do tend to overreact sometimes. OTOH, sometimes there's a reason.
We used to belong to a church group where one little boy there began calling one of my sons, "Hey, brown skin." My son would laugh as they chased each other around. It seemed innocent to me, but I told the boy, "Let's use real names. His name is..." But, I saw no reason to be offended. I figured the little boy was making an innocent observation. My own child would describe people the same way.
But then, a couple of months later, one day that same little boy made a different comment about my older son. Without going into detail, let's just say, suddenly, the picture became clear, and I realized we had a big problem that extended to the older boys and probably their parents, too. Still, I kept my thoughts to myself and decided to watch more closely and wait to address the issue.
Well, a few months went by, and one day the women in charge and I had an argument, and THEY made comments that were over the top.
So, now I can understand why a parent might overreact to the first comment, even though they shouldn't. (For the record, I still don't overreact.)
Ahh, PC. Many of my kids' stuffed animals have had their necks twisted while reading what the lib gasbags have to say on the subject so I can definitely understand that....
Be very glad that I will settle for mere animal sacrifices.
