Army captain jailed for selling rocket launchers

AN Australian army captain who stole 10 rocket launchers from the military and sold them on the black market must have known they could end up in the hands of terrorists.

Shane Della-Vedova was sentenced yesterday to a maximum of 10 years' jail, with a minimum term of seven years, after pleading guilty to stealing and selling the rocket launchers between 2001 and 2003 to a convicted criminal with terrorist links.

IMHO, since Australia has been at war with terrorism, this individual should have been summarily executed for his crimes.

If it could have been proven the weapons fell into the hands of Australia’s enemies, he might well have been charged with treason - and Australia may still have the death penalty for that crime (it would be up to the High Court to decide, as the legal situation has wound up being quite confused).
