Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) holds an 11-point lead over his Democratic opponent, businessman Bruce Lunsford, according to the McConnell campaigns internal polling released today.
The poll shows McConnell leading Lunsford 50 to 39 percent in a head-to-head matchup, The numbers are unchanged in McConnells internal polling since Lunsford won the Democratic primary this month.
This is remarkable since the survey was done at a time that Republicans were slipping nationally, and at a time that Lunsford was spending significant sums of money on advertising, McConnells pollster Jan van Lohuizen wrote in the polling memo. So no movement at a time like this is good news in my opinion.
The poll also shows McConnell holding a strong job approval rating: 57 percent of respondents said they approved of McConnells job performance while 30 percent disapproved.
Fifty-five percent of voters had a favorable impression of McConnell, while 32 percent had an unfavorable impression. Lunsford had a lower net favorability rating: 34 percent held a positive impression of him, while 20 percent had an unfavorable impression.
The poll surveyed 600 likely voters between May 21-22, and was conducted by the GOP firm Voter/Consumer Research. The poll has a four percent margin of error.
It contradicts the numbers from a newly-released automated Rasmussen poll, which shows Lunsford leading McConnell, 49 to 44 percent.

So, yet another Republica Senator is in peril of losing. It’s fortunate that Obama is running so poorly in Kentucky.
I guess that’s what happens when you are consistent and have integrity.

“If illegal aliens were “good for the economy”, the state with the most illegals, California, would be enjoying record prosperity. Instead, they are billions and billions in debt.
Our economy, jobs, crime, schools, and health care are all impacted negatively by this overwhelming stream of illegals. We the taxpayers are paying the bills for corrupt politicians, corrupt employers, and special interest groups and millions of people willing to work for less pay and are experts at taking advantage of our generous social safety nets.
This GOP must adopt an agenda that severely penalizes unscrupulous employers that hire illegals, and close the borders. I will not further support the GOP as long as it continues to ignore the will of American citizen’s or actively works against it as does John McCain.

Another conservative succeeds in SPITE of his party’s liberal behavior. Imagine that!:)
Oh, I need to send Mitch a check.
Not a chance here, FRiend. McCain will win Kentucky by such a margin as to keep McConnell safe. I wouldn’t worry too much.
a KY .Ping?
I have a favorable impression of McConnel and this Kentuckian will vote for him for the third time.
Republicans are fast qualifying for the endangered species list. How ironic that the “maverick” candidate for President has the best chance to hold the White House for the GOP. In order for the GOP to bounce back, Republicans need to honestly ask themselves why Independents like McCain while souring on the generic Republican.
