A 14-year-old Boise, Idaho, girl has disappeared and is believed to be in danger after meeting a 27-year-old man on the Internet.
Police say the girl may be in the Seattle area with the man, who is wanted on a kidnapping warrant.
The girl, Saddie "Elaine" Julian, was last seen Wednesday morning. Authorities are asking for the public's help in locating her. She is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 90 pounds, with pale skin, long red hair and a thin build.
According to police, Saddie developed an online relationship with Morgan Douglas Jones, 27, of Birmingham, Ala., while playing an Internet game. Jones is described as standing 5-feet-9, weighing 160 pounds, with shoulder-length red hair and light skin. He was last seen clean-shaven.
Police believe the man drove to Boise from Alabama and picked up the teen at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators say it appears they headed west from there, and their last known location was Eastern Washington.
It's believed that the two were traveling in a bright 
yellow 2008 Chevy Aveo, Alabama license plate OMGROFL.
Boise police detectives are working closely with other local, state, and federal law enforcement to locate Saddie and Jones.
"Our priority is finding Saddie and making sure she's safe," said Boise Police Lt. Alan Cavener. "Her family is understandably very concerned. We hope to find her soon and be able to tell her family she's OK."
Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Saddie Julian or Morgan Douglas Jones is urged to contact Boise police through Crime Stoppers at (208) 343-COPS.

Canada Finally Moves Age of Consent for Sex from 14 to 16

OTTAWA, March 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Canada's new age of sexual consent, raised to 16 from 14, was signed into law on Feb. 28 after passing in the Senate by a narrow 3 votes.
As reported last December by LifeSiteNews.com, the Conservative Government's Bill C-2, the 'Tackling Violent Crime Act', passed the House of Commons on November 28, 2007. This bill included a provision to raise the age of consent for sexual activity from 14 to 16.

It would be hard to think of anything, short of mutilation or murder, that could more comprehensively ruin a 14 year old girl’s life than becoming pregnant.
Even if she avoids pregnancy, the chances that she will ever finish her education, have a meaningful career or build stable adult relationships are greatly diminished.
Twenty-seven year old men who drive a 1000 miles to run off with underaged girls are, imho, creeps.

This type of thing has always been common. There’s a disconnect with how permissive parents are with their daughters these days then how everyone in America freaks when the results come in. Getting pregnant at 14 is hard on the body but not uncommon. This is nature in action. Don’t act so shocked and surprised. Getting an advanced education and high paying career and not having children is not for every girl. In fact it’s not at all what’s supposed to happen.

Ruin, in what sense? Not everyone needs or wants to live the standard middle American dream. If it is a genuine relationship, I probably wouldn't object here. Judging by the looks of the pair, they deserve each other.

To be honest, I don’t really care that much about what she does with her life. Not everybody has to live like me or do what I do. I just don’t like having the middle American lifestyle pushed with near-totalitarian zeal.
The human female is the only female animal that has hidden heat. That's because for the last 200,000 years if parents knew their daughter was in heat they locked her up, thinning this trait completely out of the gene pool. A daughter getting pregnant drains family resources so has been unwanted for a long time. Nature has had a long arms race against parents and has developed many tricks and traps. Sometimes nature wins. It's really bad sport for the parents to then "terminate" the baby.

If you agree we need to draw the line somewhere, then we don’t have a disagreement in principle, just in deciding where to draw a line. I think 14 is too young. She may not enjoy what you dismiss as “middle American lifestyle”, but I want her to have a chance to make a choice when she’s old enough to give informed consent.

The solution to this story is to load up the shotgun and have a wedding, not throw Romeo in jail for 30 years. Through the far reach of the internet these two redheads were able to find each other and let nature take it's natural course. What's your solution? Shakespeare wrote right into the story that Juliet Capulet’s age was 13. Romeo’s age is not clear but he was of nobility and could afford to start a family. Do you prefer girls hooking up with boys that can’t?

Case-by-case basis. Not all 14-year-olds are created equal. To be clear here, I'm not talking about the legalities, but rather my sense of whether or not the the precious little snowflake is the "victim" here or in this particular case is engaged in consensual relations. How do you know that she isn't old enough to have informed consent?
Could be under reported though. Lots of the Canadian press do not like anything that pleases conservative thought.

In general, it's probably not the best thing, but my point is that not everyone is Harvard-bound and that relations between older people and younger ones is not categorically wrong but depends the level of consent in the relationship. You have right to your opinion but I don't think in this particular case the 14 year old was taken advantage of.
