Child killed in air show accident
Posted by Staff reports June 29, 2008 3:20 PM
A 5-year-old child was reportedly killed when a row of tents blew over at Air Show 2008, according to a HEMSI paramedic at the scene.
The child was reportedly hit by an air conditioning unit when a strong gust of wind blew over a row of about 12-15 tents at about 2 p.m. in the reserved chalet area of the air show. HEMSI reports that 11 people in the chalet area were transported to Huntsville Hospital.
Huntsville Airport Authority officials have called a news conference at the main airport terminal.

I was at the show with my daughters.
We were sheltered under the wing root of a KC-135, and I was a bit worried about lightning, but the wind didn’t seem all that strong (I would guess 40-45 mph).
It was over in a matter of 5 minutes or so.

That is what the tv guy said and after I posted that I looked at the computer clock and it was after 4. I think it was at the hospital and if that was the case, the tv station I am watching has a golf show on. I live in the SE part of town and the airport is on the west side. We just got heavy rain down here but my daughter lives out closer to the airport and she had taken her dogs out for a walk and kept seeing trees down. Looks like some more storms are headed this way. They usually go the north of town or at least north of where I am. OK, the tv station will have more news at 5 so maybe the people who made the runner or whatever it is called got the time wrong. It has happened before. We own a small company here in town and had some employees out there in or near the VIP place. Sure hope they are all ok.

That's too bad, I didn't realize that bit of wind we got earlier was so bad until I saw a crawler on the TV a little earlier. The wife and I almost went yesterday but ended up keeping the economy going by buying furniture.
I was able to see a bit of the airshow yesterday from my back porch.

I immediately thought of you when I read this. I wondered if you had experienced any of the bad weather. Good to hear you’re ok, but God Bless that little child and his or her family.

Thanks. Sad to hear the loss of life.
I'm way south in Mobile and we had a big storm this afternoon too. Blew down a small tree in my yard.
