What Exactly is President Bush Doing About the Rise in Oil?(vanity)
Posted on 07/01/2008 8:44:59 AM PDT by Charles Bronson Forever
Does Bush really want us to drop into a deep recession? I have no idea why he has not issued an Executive Order and directed the lifting of the ban on drilling. I would think most American would support him. He should go before the nation and state his case. "Look, you wanna pay ten bucks a gallon? Do ya, punks!!!!"

I have no idea why he has not issued an Executive Order and directed the lifting of the ban on drilling. There are two separate bans - one involving an Executive Order and the other involving legislation. Getting rid of one won't help get rid of the other so it would be pointless for the President to unilaterally remove the Executive Order until Congress lifts its ban as well.

A EO would be futile at this point with President Bush having only a few months left in office. For the most part, EOs expire at the end of a President's term unless renewed by the next President. An EO issued now would most likely not be renewed by either of our Presidential prospects. This would not be enough time for an oil company to really take any action, especially with the prospect that action would be overturned and cost them a lot to pull out. It would do little other than waste paper.

He is waiting for the public pressure to mount beyond fever pitch when the Republicans can gather enough Rat votes to push all the energy bills through.
Remember....Congress never acts it alway reacts. We are awaiting the pressure to induce reaction.

Dangit! What the heck was the name of that Bronson movie where he was hired to helicopter a prisoner out of Mexico? There was a neat scene in it where, at the end, the bad guy gets it from a plane's propeller.

48% OF AMERICANS THINK REPUBLICANS STILL CONTROL CONGRESS!!!!! ... according to a recent poll.
Thanks, MSM.
Well, to be honest, it's not totally the MSM's fault, because people need to educate themselves about government online or elsewhere. That way they'd know what's going on and why.
Just easier to (wrongly) assume Republicans are in charge, I suppose...

I suspect he is maintaining a perfectly hedged position, selling US dollars and buying Euro futures, and short-selling sweet crude in US dollars on the spot market and buying sweet crude futures in Euros to cover his exposures...
...Heck, I dunno — I just made that up. What kind of question is that? Of course Bush, being an oil-man, will be making just as much money out of the rise in Oil as he possibly can. He can’t help doing that: that’s how he keeps his millions of dollars. He’s a businessman and not as dumb as most people make out.

Wah. Wah. Wah. It's called a market. What, exactly, is the president going to do? Increase supply? Dims won't let him. Decraese wolrd demand, like in China? How? Suck it up. Oil has been cheap for 75 years, it's just now getting to where it SHOULD be.

Because he is a globalist.. you know, like Obama, Hillary and John McLaim..
The globalists are picking the bones on the American carcase..
You know, tax the oil companys which tax will be passed on to the retail purchaser as always..
The price of crude oil(refined and unrefined) has become A TAX...
No not a just a tax... BUT a VALUE ADDED TAX(VAT)...

He has not issued the executive order because he is just using the issue as political ammunition instead of actually trying to solve it. Anyone could see that the price was going to go way up as early as 2002. There have been threads about it here even longer than that. He has had plenty of time to act on this and has not done so.

President Bush can lift the executive order on the offshore drilling ban but it’s symbolic. Congress passed the ban into U.S. law. Congress needs to lift the ban and that will take Democrats to agree on lifting the ban.

It’s the truth.
The Saudis have been dumping oil on the market for years, with the express purpose of keeping the price low depressing competition.
Oil is now, even with dramatically increased worldwide consumption and not huge increases in supply, not much more than it was in the 1950s (adjusted for inflation).

Why would he do anything? Gas prices are a result of the free market supply and demand economics.
Bush is part of the government which should have nothing to do with business.

The guy probably doesn’t know that the continuous rise of oil prices and the unwillingness of Congress to allow major oil development on the homefront is all a intentional plan to take America down.
It is all part of the globalisation effort to force America in line with the 2nd and 3rd world nations. America’s greatness has become an eyesore to our liberal congressmen.

Getting rid of one won't help get rid of the other... But this is the world of politics, not necessarily reason.
If there is an EO against drilling, it should be removed. That in of itself will generate news, occupy a news cycle or two, and events could trigger from that. If there are two obstacles, where one of them is easily changed, then it should be changed so that all the pressure falls on the remaining obstacle. In addition, more news on this issue is better, and helps candidates that have it as an active issue. It also energizes a segment of the public more likely to vote Pub.

If he does it and it is not Constitutional the Supreme Court will overturn his decision in a second. So I ask again is it Constitutional? We must go with hat in hand to the middle east and then find Earth friendly alternative resources!
Seriously, how ashamed our forefathers would be to see us be so dependent on foreign sources when we could be self sufficient.
I am aghast at the mindset that would allow us to come to this.
