John McCain's Top 10 Class-Warfare Arguments Against Tax Cuts
Human Events Via Gun Owners of America ^ | January 2008

Posted on 07/01/2008 10:13:00 AM PDT by Captain Kirk

"I don't think the governor's tax cut is too big -- it's just misplaced. Sixty percent of the benefits from his tax cuts go to the wealthiest 10% of Americans -- and that's not the kind of tax relief that Americans need.... Gov. Bush wants to spend the entire surplus on tax cuts. I don't believe the wealthiest 10% of Americans should get 60% of the tax breaks. I think the lowest 10% should get the breaks....

"I'm not giving tax cuts for the rich."

-- Discussion with media, reported in "Bush, McCain Snip Over Tax Cut Plans," Los Angeles Times, and "GOP Rivals Bicker on Taxes," Washington Post, Jan. 5, 2000.

2. "I have never engaged in class warfare. I am very much in favor of tax cuts for middle-income and lower-income Americans. I'm deeply concerned about a kind of class warfare that's going on right now. It's unfortunate. There's a growing gap between the haves and have-nots in America, and that gap is growing, and it's unfortunately divided up along ethnic lines.

"I feel very strongly that we ought to have middle-income and lower-income tax cuts, and we'll be getting into it, I'm sure, later on in this program. Mine are basically comparable to Gov. Bush's, in some cases far better. But I'm not sure we need to give two-thirds of that tax cut, of that money, to the wealthiest 10% of America."

-- Michigan Republican Debate, Jan. 11, 2000.

Apparently in lieu of involuntary Obama supporters who value their “convictions” more than their troops...

It upsets the John “obscene oil company proifts” McCain revisionists who want to convince us of the fairly tale that McCain only opposed the tax cuts because he wanted more spending cuts.

Nah, they'll be along soon enough ranting about the boogey man Obama and how tax increases to pay for McCain's looney global warming programs and shamnesty will be a small price of socialism to pay to keep the marxist at bay.

Besides, they desperately need the t-shirt points.

McCain can make any Marxist argument and be forgiven by the alleged anti-Marxists here.

The GOA should stick to gun issues and stop cutting their own throat.

All they can succeed in doing now is getting a rabid anti-gunner elected if they stay on their current path.

It will be McCain or Obama in Nov. They blew it big time in the primaries to get the nomination for a better candidate.
The NRA dropped the ball too.

The counter arguments that the Mclame boosters will provide are going to sound suspcisously like what was presented to conservatives during the CA Gov run off.

"I don't believe the wealthiest 10% of Americans should get 60% of the tax breaks."

Given That the Top 10% of wage earners pay 70% of the Taxes I say that 60% of the tax breaks is 10% to low.

"I think the lowest 10% should get the breaks...."

The lowest 10% of wage earners DO NOT PAY TAXES!!! How much more of a break do you want to give them?

There was no better candidate in the primaries - at least not in the top tier. They were all equally bad. Fearmongering isn’t going to get McCain elected and it’s certainly not going to stop groups like GOA from getting their message out, nor should it.

Clothespins on their noses, fingers in their ears, blindfolds on their eyes - what’s not to like about Today’s GOP™?

NO, I don't like McCrazy either but either he or Obama will be elected and its too late to change that fact.

GOA is a gun group and all they can possibly do now by attacking McCrazy is too get the worst anti-gun candidate ever nominated elected. Is that their goal?

Obama is far worse on every issue and that includes guns and taxes.

Fred Thompson was far better but the Rocky-feller wing backed Mutt Romney and Rooty while gun groups like GOA and the NRA set on their @ss and did nothing or backed obscure third party nutballs with no chance of winning.

Well, I am certainly not a McCainiac. One thing about the left. They never change who they are, even if it means they lose. They have spent the last 9 years pounding away at Bush and whipping the GOP and George Bush. They draw no quarter.

If they really wanted to make this election extra painful they could point out how pathetic and really unprincipaled the GOP and the so called conservatives are. They could point out how they will win a victory no matter who wins. After all, the GOP is the party that will except leftism and the policy of leftism to win.

Here we are on a conservative forum tooting up a person who has stabbed conservatives in the back for years. He has been against tax cuts, he is for cheating the American citizens with the folly of man made Gorebal warming, he is for embryonic stem cell research, hates free speech in order to protect his buddies, hires the likes of Juan Hernandez, and meets with Mexican racists, in private most of the time, those that would destroy the unique US culture burdening taxpayers with the care of illegals for the benefit of his global buddies, won’t open ANWAR for drilling and wants us to plug a car the size of a cardboard box into our wall at night.

This election is a farce. Conservatives have become laughingstocks. Just look at the homepage of FR. Hah, shame too many people don’t care a thing about what it says.

This is the only election I have ever seen when the left has to lie about our POTUS candidate moving right. Geesh.

Thompson was rated a C- by GOA based on his Senate votes. Hardly someone an organization wants to put their money behind.

First of all, the article was originally editorial in Human Events, Ronald Reagan's favorite magazine. Second, which of the McCain's pro-Marxist quotations do you regard as inaccurate?

Let McCain be elected. Then the GOP can fight about legislation.

Even if you vote for neither its stupid to promote Obama by trashing McCrazy now. Its too late to change the fact that one of them will be elected in Nov.

How is it that being honest about McCain and the consequences of voting for him, trashing him?

In your post you did not deny that what was said was true?

Either way your pockets are going to get picked, only difference is whether you voted for it.

McCrazy is a broken leg, Obama is a broken neck, and we will get one of the two in Nov.

I'm not sure if I could vote for the broke leg option either but I'm not going to help the broken neck along.

Once you vote for it. You own it. Once McCain IS McCain and in charge, he will collaborate with his Dem buddies and be all that you hated about McCain a few years ago. You will win no victory because McCain will advance what you hate the most. Sooner or later the RATs are going to win, and McCain will have advanced their agenda. The Dems will have the upperhand, and will blame the misery on that old man with an R by his name.

Only difference is, the blowback will lay at the feet of the GOP and the conservatives.

It will happen, no way around the fact we are going to have to face it. No one wants to, and I understand that fact. The GOP has lost its soul and 2006 was the beginning of the price to be paid.

I agree with you, but, these folks either lean left anyway or they have no spine, or they fear any pain.

I don’t flame them unless they attack me, but...I know they are wrong minded on this. It is very hard to hold out for what you believe in. The right could take a lesson from the left on this.

We want a win with no pain.

We ain’t gonna get it.

Do the people who keep getting the country messed up by supporting the alleged lesser of two evils ever apologize? I think we know the answer....meanwhile big government has grown even faster in the Bush administration than it did in Clinton’s.

No. They haven't the mental capacity to see the dangers of incrementalism. And anyway, they're too busy enjoying being bent over.
