Too funny. Would be great with a background of twenty or thirty student cats observing behind the glass partition.

Thanx.
That pup looks just like my burglar alarm, except the poor kitty in the picture, if it were in the grasp of my benevolent protector, would probably have to reapply for some of those frequent cat lives that their issued at birth.

My Shep was surprisingly gentle with cats, small dogs and kids. My Tervuren is just fine with small dogs and kids, but is hell on cats.

We have always had Shepherds, having had four of them over the last 40 years (three were mixed, two w/Lab, one w/Husky, only one was pure). Hard to say which one was the best. They all had different personalities. All were good with the kids. All were great dogs.
Our current one (a trace of Lab) is the dumbest of them all, except for not liking cats (squirrels, rabbits, ground hogs), she is the most playful.

As the son of a retired PA cop, and a former military police officer, I’ve always been around shepherds, the finest example of which I’ve ever known died a year ago this month. When indiscriminately bred and/or poorly trained and socialized, they can be problem dogs, but when handled properly, there are none finer.

My Austrailian Shepard(Levi) is hell on anything that finds itself in our yard. Including a fair sized coon I found dead in the backyard. I checked him(levi) from top to bottom and he did not have a scratch on him. I don’t know how he did it.
A couple weeks later he treed three coons in our front yard. We live in a culdesak and had to bring him in and let the coons go. Haven’t seen any coons since.

Im in total agreement, especially with the part about handling them properly. Id like to say that dogs are people too, but they are animals, you have to respect and understand them.

"Im in total agreement, especially with the part about handling them properly. Id like to say that dogs are people too, but they are animals, you have to respect and understand them." Unless you plan on competing in Schutzhund, and are looking for a pure companion dog, I don't think there's a better training regimen than that found in this book...
While not a "religious" book it certainly fosters a spiritual aspect to dog ownership.

The Monks of New Skete are right on the money about how to raise a well-behaved and well-rounded dog in my opinion, and not just a GSD. I tried to adopt their thoughts and methods when raising my two Cane Corso’s, and have been very pleased with the results.
