SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama opposes a California measure that would define marriage as between a man and woman after the state's top court backed same-sex weddings, according to a letter released on Tuesday.
Californians will vote on the effort to alter the state's constitution and override the state Supreme Court's decision on November 4, when they cast votes in the presidential election. Obama's Republican rival, John McCain, endorsed the measure last week.
The California court's decision made the state the second after Massachusetts to allow same-sex marriages and the first to offer to marry gay couples from outside the state. The marriages began on June 16.
Obama said he favors extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same sex couples under both state and federal law" in the letter, posted on the Web site of the Alice B. Toklas Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Democratic Club of San Francisco.

Obama also supports infanticide....
Are we surprised?
If Obama becomes President there will be nationalized gay marriage rights.
...and hate crimes courts for those who believe that the gay lifestyle is sin.
And the repeal of Don’t Ask, and...
Mad Jon generates little love, he is far better then the Obamao.
“No church will be able to preach that homosexuality is a sin or the pastor will go to jail.”
THIS......is their goal.
And ONE more thing....Obama’s attempt to reach Evangelicals ....whEre he saIDhe wants to expand President Bush’s FAITH-BASED approaches to human problems.....it will ALL come with the price tag of “NO PREJUDICE”.....
.....(REGARDING GENDER, ETC. IN THE HIRING PRACTICES OF THAT CHURCH).
Only if he has enough support in Congress to overturn DOMA.
Pretty much any Social Conservatist Cause that has had any success whatsoever, from DOMA to Heller to Don’t Ask will be Attacked under a Obamao Presidency.

What is going on is simple, in presidential elections democrats run to the center. They know they’ll never get the vote of mostly conservative America otherwise - who are overhwhelmingly against same sex marriage.
Obama is lying through his teeth. It is an attempt to appear as if he isn’t the far leftist that he is.
Get real, civil unions is just another name for marriage.
One reason the left thinks we are stupid. Which may be correct
If I recall, people of this persuassion can give each other power of attorney. What’s the difference?
I think the difference is you can adopt. You can’t adopt with just power of attorney.
Any attorneys out there?
And enforced public education extolling the virtues and healthfulness of a homosexual lifestyle, perpetrated on our children by the likes of GLESN.
I keep saying the most important issue of this election is judges, judges, judges.
After reading that bho would consider Hillary and Edwards, well, it just scares the hell out of me.
Spread the word - Judges!!
Without prejudice....
so that means....
gays, Rev Wright etc
Gee I cant wait.
WE NEED JUDGES!!!!!
So much for Obama’s belief on “We, the People....”
By Any Means Necessary.
A group spawned via Black Liberation Theologists.
...non-ACTIVIST JUDGES.
Every voter who can be motivated to get out and vote by opposing gay marriage is already against Obama.
There are voters who are indifferent on the issue who can be convinced to vote for McCain on other issues, but "tolerance" is one of their hot buttons.
So, by campaigning against Obama on this issue, I think the net effect is loss of votes.
I disagree. Most states where the voters have banned same-sex “marriage” via referenda have done so by huge margins, much greater than the typical Republican-Democrat split in presidential elections. For example, in Texas the vote was 80-20, in Missouri I believe it was 75-25. In Oregon it was 58-42 or something like that. In Ohio it was in the high fifties to ban it, and that referendum also banned civil unions and all state benefits to homosexual couples. In all of those states, the GOP presidential candidate would never come close to those numbers. Even in conservative Texas, Reagan or Bush never got 80 percent of the vote.
In other words, opposition to same-sex “marriage” is not only popular, but off-the-charts popular. Same-sex “marriage” appeals only to hardcore leftists who would never vote GOP in a million years. As the Oregon vote shows, the swing voters are overwhelmingly against such “marriages”. When was the last time a GOP presidential candidate got 58% of the vote in Oregon?
But I think California may be a different animal. What can you say about a state that consistently re-elects the most liberal of the left to majorities in their legislature? After all, the legislature voted twice to make same sex marriage legal, only to be shot down by the governor's veto pen. I think this CA amendment is going to be close, with a lot of the liberal majority voting against their chosen legislators' world view out of regular common sense. Of course, this could bring a lot of the "dormant" conservatives out of their slumber and to the polls, but I'll be surprised if the vote gets over 55% in favor.
If it does pass, just imagine the number of voters who will have voted for Obama AND for the amendment that BOH said he opposes. Talk about a schizophrenic electorate.
