Every last Republican should be listening to Rush Limbaugh
The Globe and Mail ^ | July 3, 2008 | John Ibbitson

Posted on 07/02/2008 10:08:10 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

There may be signs of disarray in the Republican camp, but America's biggest right-wing shock jock just goes on and on.

Rush Limbaugh, radio's most powerful political voice, has signed a new contract that Mr. Limbaugh confirmed Wednesday is worth $400-million, extending his program to 2016.

John McCain should wish he could be so popular. The Republican presidential nominee, consistently lagging in the polls and subject to internal grumbling over sloppy logistics and lack of clear lines of authority among senior advisers, shook up his campaign organization, Wednesday, in the middle of a swing through Colombia and Mexico. (Mr. McCain lately has been campaigning outside his country as much as inside it.) But it's more than logistics and flow charts.

A recent Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll reported that only 22 per cent of respondents identified themselves as Republicans, while 39 per cent said they were Democrats, a 17-point gap. Twenty-seven per cent of respondents identified as independent, so the Republicans are now polling below None of the Above.

Every one of those remaining Republicans must listen to Rush Limbaugh. The show celebrates its 20th anniversary next month, attracting an audience of 14 million listeners who catch the show at least once a week on one of the roughly 600 radio stations that host it. The new contract – with Clear Channel Communications and its syndication subsidiary Premiere Radio Networks – ensures that America's most influential conservative radio host will be on the air for years to come.

“First and foremost I'm a businessman,” Mr. Limbaugh, 57, told The New York Times, for a magazine profile that will appear Sunday but that the Times has already posted on its website.

He’s not a shock jock - that’s what Howard Stern is. I’ve never heard any perverted filth or anything “out there” from Rush.

His effect on Liberals (as well as quite a few Republicans) is the same as an athletic supporter wired to a car battery.

I tuned into Rush for years hoping to hear this "shock jock," but the only record he ever spins is The Pretenders' "My City Was Gone." I am sure he is going to spin some more platters and shock us between plays, so I keep listening.

Or is there is something shocking about his jock? I just don't get it.

That’s a back handed slam. He’s not a shock jock. Howard Stern was a shock jock. There’s one hell of a lot of jealousy and political angst associated with Rush, when you’re numbers are tanking and his are going even more astronomical. The more they slam this guy, the better you know he’s still on fire.

I think they gave him the shock jock label to be condescending.
If he is a “shock jock” then he shouldn’t be taken seriously...right? Certainly not as seriously as - say - a leftist reporter with a BS in journalism.

I’ve heard this used to characterize the statements of Ann Coulter and “Michael Savage” Weiner but don’t see how it applies to Rush.

OK guys, I;m originally from Canada and every Canadian (almost) knows that the Globe & Mail is the NYT-wannabe of Kanadastan.

Just to give you an insight into their America-hating diatribe: their marketing posters in Vancouver have the Statue of Liberty holding a gun while NY burns in flames...with the title “Globe and Mail: news and analysis”.

Yep, that kind of leftwing idiocy from up north.

To what you said... Wrap it up! I'll take it!!!

I especially liked what he said today, to the effect that why are both President Bush AND John McCain so interested in being seen as reaching across the isle?

Like when have the leftist Dems EVER reached across to conservative Repubs in ANY effort at realism???

By the way, I heard an author interviewed this morning who wrote a new book called "The Pact." About Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich making a pact on October 28, 1997 to "finally get some things done" that blew up the minute the Monica Lewinski scandal broke on Drudge!

In other words... That damned Newt Gingrich SOLD US ALL DOWN THE RIVER, but we were saved by Bill's lust and lack of self-control!!!

I think that - on a personal level - I probably wouldn’t care too much for him.
But the guy has charisma, and he is the best at what he does.
Most of the time he is right. Being right so often makes people want to tune in to see what you are right about now.

He also has a great sense of humor.

Liberals are always snide and insulting.
When they aren’t insulting someone they are wringing their hands over the destruction of the planet.
Who wants to listen to that?

To what you said... Wrap it up! I'll take it!!!  Thank you.  I appreciate it.

I especially liked what he said today, to the effect that why are both President Bush AND John McCain so interested in being seen as reaching across the isle?  It's something that drives me crazy too.  On top of that McCain (and Bush too) is too willing to reach out to Europe also.  Both of them are willing to hold Conservatism in abeyance, as long as they can get a high five from the Dems or Euros.  I don't vote for Republican candidates to see them sell out Conservatism so they can be best friends.  To hell with that noise.

Like when have the leftist Dems EVER reached across to conservative Repubs in ANY effort at realism???  Why on McCain/Lieberman, McCain/Kennedy, McCain/Feingold... they reach out.  What do you mean?  LMAO.  They reach out to help our folks jump the good ship U.S.S. Conservatism.  And that's the only time they reach out.  We carp about it, then we swear to vote for the biggest offenders.  Honestly, we need our (collective) head examinged.

By the way, I heard an author interviewed this morning who wrote a new book called "The Pact." About Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich making a pact on October 28, 1997 to "finally get some things done" that blew up the minute the Monica Lewinski scandal broke on Drudge!  Some contract with American that would have been.  Perhaps theres some truth about 'contract ON America' line the left used to like to use.

In other words... That damned Newt Gingrich SOLD US ALL DOWN THE RIVER, but we were saved by Bill's lust and lack of self-control!!!   Well, Newt is simply brilliant at times.  An then again he's positively lost in space at other moments.  It's really too bad, because I'd like to think the guy that thought up the brilliant contact with America, would be a guy who would get it all the time.  Sadly he doesn't.  I like Newt, but I want to be able to pick and choose which moments he's going to support the cause, and which ones he won't.  That way we can keep his mug off the tube when he's gone over the edge temporarily.

Oh yeah! They were damning the Republicans for "shutting down the government" and all that crappola!!!

But I hear even close friends of Rush who are now national talk hosts in their own rite, like Tom Sullivan who are constantly pining for less partisanship so that "things can get done!"

Hey! I don't want "things getting done!" I don't want the leftist Dems to "change the world" or anything else!!!

There are only two real things that have saved us from CONgress and that is GRIDLOCK and Presidential vetos which George Bush has issued more sparingly than most Presidents in recent history!!!

I like Rush and know he does good for our cause, but I think he is overpaid. That much money for talking can spoil someone and give them a bigger notion of themselves than is deserved. Also, I heard him talking about how it is a hard sell to talk to people about how the democrats really want America to fail on purpose. He doesn’t seem to see that they are being blinded by the darkness in their thoughts, telling them that their way will help most people. Much the same way that Judas was talked to in his mind to believe that somehow good would come of Jesus being put on trial. Of couse, not the good of the resurrection. Jesus said while dieing, “ forgive them Father, for they know not what they do”. I believe Rush is missing that point and that makes him not as calm and strong as he used to be.
