Keep the Pressure on McCain to Pick Romney for VP
Politcal Mosaic ^ | July 2, 2008 | Unk.

Posted on 07/03/2008 3:39:29 PM PDT by Bobkk47

Story after story in the last few days have proclaimed, “Romney top choice for VP” — and along those lines are also many quotes of Romney backers who warn they are holding off on their support for Senator Maverick, especially financially, until he puts Romney on the ticket. Mitt wins practically every poll when asked by voters who they wish to see as Vice President, most recently advancing to the Finals in the popular online MSNBC veepstakes poll (click here to vote for Mitt). So, Team McCain pay attention — there is an army of supporters waiting to help you out, on one condition: Mitt Romney is chosen as McCain’s running mate.

“I would probably support John McCain if he chooses Mitt Romney as his running mate; other than that, I will not support John McCain,” said venture capital fund manager and Staples founder Thomas G. Stemberg, a Bush pioneer who raised large amounts for Romney…

Concessions magnate Joseph J. O’Donnell of the Boston Culinary Group was a Bush Ranger who raised substantial sums in this race for his fellow Belmont resident, Romney… but has not raised funds on McCain’s behalf. Like Stemberg, O’Donnell said he hopes McCain “is smart enough to choose Mitt” as his running mate.

Mitt has raised over 10 million dollars already for McCain, with some reports suggesting Romney plans to raise 60 million. I think McCain will find the moment he selects Mitt, many things will begin to turn favorably his way, from donors to enthusiasm again on talk radio, with many hosts and popular Republicans like Laura Ingraham, Joe Scarborough, Ann Coulter, and even el Rushbo more willing to promote McCain with Romney on board. President Bush and strategist Karl Rove have also made it known Romney is their choice for Vice President.

We know that Romney completes the ticket for McCain with his Conservative credentials on everything from advocating the need to drill for more oil in the western hemisphere to his pro-business economic background. He will be the deciding factor for McCain to win the most important battleground state for this election: Michigan.

Mitt has a contagious optimism, much needed during this time of wars and economic uncertainty. He is eloquent, thoughtful, smart and quick thinking on his feet; no one is a better debater. Frankly, Mitt has been the one that has kept the GOP together. When many in the party, including myself, were willing to jump ship rather than support McCain, he led by example, putting aside his differences with the Senator and reminded everyone we must keep the most important issue of our time, protecting the nation against violent jihadism, as our priority to make sure Obama’s appeasement policy is not championed. He is a role model, as a proud family man who deeply loves and respects his wife, Ann, and a devoted father to his his five sons and grandchildren. He is a leader, with a proven record in the private sector as well as executive experience as the Governor of Massachusetts. He is a man the electorate can trust to take over the job in the Oval Office if McCain was unable to fulfill his term.

Romney supporters, continue to let it be know that unless McCain puts Mitt on the ticket with him, we are not willing to open up our wallets, or get out and vote for him in November. Let’s keep the pressure on McCain to select Mitt and not relent on the winning conservative agenda. I truly believe the power of the Romney supporters behind McCain will be the difference in this election. As the mantra goes, “No Mitt, no money, no vote.”

Mitt should have been President. If the “evangelicals” hadn't been so bigoted - he would have been ... . I'll never forget those full page bigoted ads against him ... of Mike Huckster putting him down ... .

Now is an opportunity to make up for that. McPain is a disaster but at least someone decent, moral, intelligent and business oriented could turn U.S. around.

I hope McCain does pick Romney as his VP. Perhaps Romney will help McCain see the light on keeping GITMO open and drilling here and now. Romney was my choice after Fred Thompson dropped out. I hope Romney is on the ticket!

Pro-abortion, pro-semi auto ban, sanctuary mansion former governor of Massachusetts? No thanks.

The only reason anyone rallied around Romney at one time is because it looked to be either him or McCain and no conservative wanted McCain. I doubt too many conservatives really, truely care for Romney himself.

All that said, I'd take him so much more quickly than Joe Loserman or Michael Bloomberg.

Not this stupid crap again!

Romney has supported liberal issues and liberal causes his entire adult life. From abortion on demand, to gun control to homo rights --- and no last minute rhetorical spin can change those facts. Romney has given credence to socialized medicine by promoting government sponsored state wide health care services in Massachusetts.

No honest conservative in his/her right mind, should ever want to see this liberal as POTUS or VPOTUS.

I’m wavering on whether I can vote for McCain at all. This will set it in cement. No way could I vote for McCain if Romney was the other half of the ticket. That would make it worse.

We don’t need this thread.

Romney would be a disaster. Why would we sacrifice the pure play of religious suspicion about Obama being a closet Muslim? Putting Mitt out there would cancel that out by introducing fresh fodder for religious conspiracists.

Thought this thread might interest you. You were right about too many freepers being infatuated with Romney and I didn't see it until late in the primary.

Someone explain to me why they think Romney would be a 'good' running mate when he had every factor in his favor during the primary (attractive, extremely rich, famous last name, high political office, slick, polished, scripted, platform taylor made for what conservatives wanted to hear), and he still came up short in state after state because people DIDN'T buy the guy's act?

You never know!

McCin staffer: Hey, it’s Huckabee on the phone again!

McCain: Hello Mike. How are things?

Huckabee: Uh John, I just heard that you chose that Mormon fella, I mean you chose Romney, as your VP!

McCain: Now Mike...

(McCain turns on the speaker phone and motions for everyone to keep quiet and gather around the phone)

Huckabee: Didn’t I do all the dirty work in the primaries? Didn’t I say the things you couldn’t say and do my best to mobilize everyone against that Mormon...I mean Romney...

McCain (snickering): Now Mike (cough, cough) you have been a good friend (bites lip) and a true conservative (everyone in room tightly clasps their mouths at that one). We are all together now on this fight...

Huckabee: Freakin, this is just not right! I thought we had an understanding about goals, Mormons, the direction of this country...

McCain: What? You’re breaking up — try to call me back later! Bye! Room breaks out in hysterical laughter.

Two old white guys is a recipe for disaster. Don't we have any legit conservative chicks out there? Sarah Palin rocks on paper, but she sounds like she could have played the lead in "Fargo", and she has an infant son. Kay Hutchison had promise years ago but has since revealed herself to be untrustworthy on immigration and other issues. I used to like Linda Chavez but she has disgraced herself with race-baiting propaganda on illegals. Who else is there?

At this point, I’m already resigned to voting for McCain, despite his positions/lies on amnesty, Gore-bal warming, ANWR, etc. So Romney won’t be any worse.

I’d rather see a conservative who can debate well. Romney is neither, for all his other strengths.

RM, your tagline is contradictory. You say McCain has to earn your vote - well at least during the primaries, Romney did try and reach out to conservatives. Call it flip-flopping but it was better than giving conservatives the middle finger like McCain has for years. So you'll vote for McCain if he suddenly has an epiphany but not Romney who actively sought out conservatives?

The best part about the primaries is that all of Romney's liberal gunk has been rehashed and is well-known by conservatives. I think Romney will appeal to the unwashed masses out there. Bear in mind that I've never been a fan of Romney but with him on the ticket, you've got to hold your nose bro.

Romney has a great, detailed energy independance plan. He is a proven venture capatalist and skilled politician. Mitt is probably one of the best economists in the Boston venture community and this economy needs a guy like him in the White House.

My perfect choice of President and VP would be totally conservative. But since we are down to a choice of a lesser of two evils of far left or moderate right, McCain should have a cabinet that all has the same politics.

This was President Bush’s core problem in my opinion on many failures, particularly on foreign matters. Picking a mixed cabinet was a disaster for him. Because it partially worked for Reagan in the 1980’s with the Soviet threat of global annihalation doesn’t mean it works in 2000. That’s my take.

Some of you freepers have listened to the mainstream media garbage so long they've brainwashed you into beliving it. Mitt Romney didn't lose because a bunch of GOP voters are evil, nasty ultra-Christian bible-thumping religious bigots. Mitt Romney lost because he is a flip-flopping phony. I'm Catholic and if Mitt were Catholic I'd STILL vote against for him for the same reason I opposed "fellow" Catholic John Kerry. They will say anything to get elected and I DON'T trust them.

At least back in 2000 when the MSM accused Bush of being an evil anti-Catholic bigot because he spoke at "anti-Catholic" Bob Jones University, you guys knew it was B.S. Now you've bought the "Intolerant GOP is overrun with mean nasty evagelical bigots!" kool-aid.

What's next, are you going to claim Jim Kolbe is hated by conservatives because the GOP is "homophobic" and not due to the fact he's a ultra-liberal open-borders RINO douchebag?

You guys are really dissappointing the way the MSM plays you like a fiddle. I knew FR was going downhill once the MSM kept repeating that Bush would not be President without Katherine Harris pulling strings behind the scenes to "give" Florida to him and many here started to believe it.

“All that said, I’d take him so much more quickly than Joe Loserman or Michael Bloomberg.”

Bloomberg is a Fascist, hypocritical *sshole. I give Leiberman some credit for acting American and not backing down when his own party attempted to shred him. Bloomberg has the common NYC financial attitude that there are nobles and serfs in America. That attitude is half the reason our economy is in the tank, the other half you can thank Greenspan and Bill Clinton for.

I'm not a Mormon.

I researched Mitt. I couldn't believe the LIES written about him on FR and the FR “truth file” tried to give credence to it.

It's not the “evangelicals” it's others that simply want to believe LIES and willingly accept LIES by the Huckster as “truth” just because he mentions Jesus now and then. The Huckster’s track record is that of a taxer, open border guy and a socialist - not at all “Christian” teachings. As a Bible based person, I could not in good conscience pretend he is a Christian.

I see Mitt as a fine man and a prayer target. He'd make a fine VP.

Keep it up if you want McCain to lose. I’d probably stay home rather than vote for Romney. And I sure couldn’t campaign for him (which I might do for McCain if he selects a conservative for VP). Romney is even more liberal than McCain in every respect.

McCain probably wants him because he has deep pockets, but there’s got to be a better way of getting money than picking somebody who would make the ticket sink like a stone. And if he’s counting on the Mormon vote, there aren’t enough of them to make a big difference, so that sure wouldn’t put him over the top.

I'm a realist. Voting for Barr & the libertarians is out of the question. The price of gas is threatening my job (I work in trucking logistics). This nation is being hamstrung by regulations and busybodies. We need someone with an extensive background in the free market, and Romney happens to be that guy.

Romney provides a badly-needed economic boost to McCain. He's still more pro-life than Obama. If that makes me a hypocrite or somehow makes me pro-abortionist, so be it.

Grow up RM. The primaries are over. Take a look at the real enemies and fight with the army you have. Try working on pushing McCain and the GOP to the right. If McCain remains hard-headed and refuses to embrace some conservatism, and keeps promoting amnesty, global warming, and other crap, and Romney does the same, then yes, I wouldn't vote for them if you paid me to. Indeed, my holding my nose vote is preliminary and depends on what McCain/Romney say in the months leading up to the election.

Romney says a lot of nice things but his record is something else. He brought “universal” health care to Mass and was left of center on virtually every issue until he ran for president.

Romney as VP actually makes McCain less attractive too me. Bottom line, Romney's record and rhetoric don't match. I don't see Romney bringing already unenthusiastic conservatives to the polls in large numbers.

He's the logical choice.
