An American man who was born female but underwent gender realignment surgery, has given birth to a female baby, US media have reported.
Thomas Beatie, 34, is legally male but kept his female reproductive organs after having breast surgery to remove glands and flatten his chest.
Both Mr Beatie and his daughter are reported to be doing well in a hospital in Bend, Oregon.
He was inseminated using sperm from an anonymous donor.
The birth was natural, a source at St Charles Medical Center in Bend told ABC News, and took place on Sunday.
According to some reports, Mr Beatie had had a Caesarean section.

Mr Beatie, who sports a wispy beard, made headlines around the world when he revealed in April that he was pregnant.
He told chat show host Oprah Winfrey it had been his dream to one day have a child.
"I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day," he said.
Mr Beatie grew up in Hawaii as Tracy Lagondin and was a Girl Scout, model and finalist in a teenage beauty pageant.
He began to live as a man when he was in his 20s and officially changed his gender, he told People magazine.
He has been married for five years to wife Nancy.
Mr Beatie's obstetrician, Dr Kimberly James, told Oprah Winfrey in April: "This baby is totally healthy. This is what I consider a normal pregnancy."
Good. Now this sick story can be put to rest.

They’d better check that baby very carefully. My MD told me the male hormones she was taking while pregnant can cause serious side effects and more frequent than normal risks of defects for the baby, often involving the genitals or reproductive system.
If the child is deformed we’ll never know. The media has taken this story where they wanted it to go and that doesn’t include any follow up which would spoil their ‘feel good’ happy ending.
This is what I consider a normal pregnancy.

The insistence on calling this person a man is ridiculous. This kind of thing is not common now but if we do not reign in reproductive issues and pass some clear laws offering stiff penalties for doctors we are going to see much more that this obscure occurrence in the future. There is coming a day when artificially produced zygotes will allow same sex couples to have babies that reflect them genetically. Lesbians would never be able to produce boys because they do not possess a y chromosome but there is nothing stopping them from having genetic samples taken and then having those samples combined to produce a viable embryo. The research has already been done using animals. We should really restrict reproduction to natural reproduction and make it a crime to help a person artificially conceive that is not married in a heterosexual relationship. It should have been restricted long ago because now we have budding subcultures that are eating away and disrupting the natural reproductive social structure. They may be extreme minorities but in a country where extreme minorities have an irrepresentative voice there is certainly danger of having these fringe ideas forced on the larger society which is already the case with radical homosexuality.
Just another example of liberals making useless and stupid laws.
No matter what this person is legally, they are not “a man”. Men cannot have children, by nature’s law.
Maybe next the courts will try to repeal gravity.

It stopped taking male hormones to resume menstruation, so, it likely didn't take them during pregnancy. This is NOT a man. I'd like to know what fool signed a paper saying it is.
THAT should be the real issue here. We need to find out who certified this freak as a "man", and besiege them with unwanted attention.

Last time I was in Bend, my GF got so drunk, we could not go skiing and had to spend the day in our motel room. Pity!

Everyone has at least one. This individual most likely has two, though there have been documented cases of XX males and XY females; I think such people are usually sterile, though. There are also occasional cases of people with genotype XXY or X.
Personally, I would suggest that people should be allowed to have their sex legally reassigned if their genotype and phenotype disagree. On the other hand, I suspect only a small portion of those who would seek sex reassignment have such genetic anomalies.
