One week after Hillary Clinton made a public show of unity with Barack Obama, a new survey suggests supporters of the New York senator are increasingly less likely to follow her lead.
A growing number of Clinton supporters say they may stay home in November instead of casting their ballot for Obama, a clear sign the party has yet to coalesce around the Illinois senator four weeks after the most prolonged and at times divisive primary race in modern American history came to a close.
According to a new survey from CNN and the Opinion Research Corporation, the number of Clinton supporters who plan to defect to John McCain's camp is down from one month ago, but in what could be an ominous sign for Obama as he seeks to unify the party, a growing number of them say they may not vote at all.
In a CNN/ORC survey conducted in early June, entirely before the New York senator officially ended her White House bid, 22 percent of Clinton supporters said they would not vote at all if Obama was the party's nominee. Now close to a third say they will stay home. In all, only 54 percent of Clinton backers say they plan on voting for Obama.
In another sign the wounds of the heated primary race have yet to heal, more than 4 in 10 registered Democrats 43 percent still say they would prefer Clinton to be the party's presidential nominee. That number is significantly higher than it was in early June, when only 35 percent of Democrats said they preferred the New York senator to lead the party's presidential ticket Then, Obama won 59 percent of support from registered Democrats, now he garners 5 points less.

Unfortunately, Barry's bucks are failing to buy votes
Geee.... ya think?
Where is Mr Unity on this independence day?
I thought sure he would use the day for some political stunt.
See those ears on Barry?
As has already been noted, pollsters are going to be shocked when, the day after Obama’s nomination, his numbers drop like a rock.
See that caboose on ol wide ride?
Hillary owes Rush a big wet kiss. His “Operation Chaos” and the Clinton Machine’s behind-the-scenes subversion of the Obama campaign ensures that PIAPS will go up against an unpopular, weak and feeble McCain in 2012 (Billary will be too old and even uglier in 2016).
It is written that dedicated socialists think in decades.
I see two things here. Either they see Obama for what he really is or, they will never vote for a black for President of the United States.
i see more hillary stickers on cars than obama stickers.
My neice and her husband are Harpy supporters and will not be voting for Black Oblack.
Pray for W and Our Troops
This is good news. I look for at least 2 million of Hill’s 18 million votes to go to McCain and another 2 million to stay home. That’s a chunk of votes.
Some of Hillary’s supporters have formed some very effective, hard-hitting, websites that have caused them to band together more determined than ever. Check ‘em out. Here are a few:

McCain will be a one term president, I hope his VP is young and conservative.
A growing number of Clinton supporters say they may stay home in November instead of casting their ballot for Obama,
If McCain ever awakes from his coma he might be able to get those votes.
In the doctors office this week I heard a woman lay Hussein low and declare her support for Hillary and now McCain.
She was as vociferous as the Bitcon McCain haters on FRee Republic.
They are all mouth. They won’t stay home. You mean to tell me they say they will stay home which means a vote for McCain and they will DO that????????? They won’t. They’ll fall in line and vote the party just like every year prior.
A lot of people will vote for Obama, and a lot of people will vote against him. Very few people, however will vote
for McCain.
I don't think so. She had her shot and Obama screwed it up for her. The party bosses don't like her much to begin with, and will never allow a replay of this year's nightmarish fiasco, which let's face it, still has a distance to run.
2012 will bring a "moderate," probably Southern, white male governor to the 'rat table. They have had enough of this drama queen identity politics bullsh*t.
.
And the irony is the Clinton's are going to make sure that the Obama campaign foots the bill for them.
I’m not sure McCain can beat Hillary.
I’m not sure McCain can beat Obama, or if he wants too. If he doesn’t come out of his coma soon it will be all over.
McCain will be a one term president
McCain will be a two-thirds of a term president. I hope I’m wrong, but that growth on his left side looks bigger every time I see him.
I hated Hillary—but grew to respect her as the feisty fighter she became—I supported her at first as an Operation Chaos member—then I grew to like her (but not totally trust her). I will never support of vote for Obama. Its not because he’s black (really he’s only half black) but because he is a low watt bulb with a left wing agenda and, I thing he’s got some personality flaws that make Richard Nixon look well adjusted.
He must not reach the White House.
The Dems versus the Clitonistas then?
Kind of like the Five Families against the Corleones.
And we all know how THAT turned out.
The Clintons are the political herpes of America.
Dormant when situations are cool but a real problem when things get hot.
I know, this election is a mess from start to finish. I hope McCain gives us a good VP.
Any props to that G*dd*m evil cow or her teensy bent husband FOR ANY REASON on this site should result in a massive ZOT!!!
The Clintons are the enemy, still are no matter what Obama projects, and you mark my words she will be the democrat nominee after the convention. Thanks to so many people like YOU!
Can not believe how many times I’ve read how some of you FReepers “always hated Hillary, but grew to respect her!”
Why doncha just get on your knees and blow her?!
Just absolutely ridiculous.
Until the very moment he is nominated, Hillary Clinton remains a threat. But the second that happens, everyone who supported him solely to stop Hillary will leave him dangling.
Few people realize that the only reason he entered the race in the first place was because he was sponsored by the Daley machine, bitter enemies of the Clintons. They very cynically calculated that he would be the one candidate that Hillary couldn’t brutalize.
This was done with the support of the other anti-Clinton powers in the Democrat party, the most powerful of which is Al Gore, who remained the last ditch effort to take out Hillary. Both he and Tipper passionately hate the Clintons for eight years of belittling and abuse.
Since leaving office, Al got hundreds of millions of dollars in stock options from high tech IPOs by his liberal buddies, and he was ready to spend a big chunk of that to stop Hillary. But Obama worked, so he didn’t have to, and can remain in reserve for the future.
Obama’s supporters are very scared that Bill and Hillary and their mob will try almost to the final day before the election to take Obama out, one way or another. So he is surrounded with a phalanx of loyal supporters.
Obama’s final tally on election day will probably be between 30-40% of the popular vote, and he will be slaughtered in the electoral college, maybe getting *the equivalent* of only three or four States.
My wife spoke to our neighbor tonight, who is a 70-year old Italian widow, devout Catholic, was a die-hard Hillary supporter and lifelong Dem. She said Obama is a Muslim, she doesn’t care what he or anyone says about it. She said Nostradamus predicted Obama and he is the anti-Christ. She is voting for McCain.
The tally: McCain 19, Nader 3, Staying Home 5, Obama 0.

Oh dear. Moderator, would you please remove the above picture and story if it is in AP violation. Since it wasn’t an AP site, I didn’t notice the AP affiliation when I posted the address. I’ll have to make myself more aware in the future. Thank you for your attention to this.
No way Hillary will get the Nod for President in 2008. Not going to happen. Obama is the man—the fix is inm even if the Hill would be a better candidate. She might be back in 2012 but not this time. Its the Obama and he is scary.
I absolutely hope you’re right but she (and Bill and the entire evil machine they created and still command) are BY FAR the most proven dangerous domestic threat to this country in it’s entire history.
Please don’t make the mistake of giving her (or Bill) any props whatsoever.....
Until they’re literally or at least figuratively Coucescu’d, they will always be the most dangerous threat—making Obama look like the schoolgirl he is.
yep. MAYBE 5 per cent stay home or vote for McPain. At best. Rabid Bush hatred is far too strong. If it were the other way around, you could count on the repugnants voting for the opposition or staying home, but the cRATs are driven by sheer hatred and emotion, and nothing else.
At least we aren’t going to get the Clintons and their freak show for eight more years. :)
YES!! SAY IT LOUD!! I’m sick of it, too. Man, my blood used to boil in those CHAOS threads, which always deteriorated into arguments. I can’t believe how many supposed “conservatives” have their faces buried in Hillary’s a$$crack.
You got that right. No clintins and no freak show and no old stale impeached willie lurking in the background trying to get as much face time as he can. Both the clintins did enough damage to this country to last a lifetime. The American people don’t deserve to have either one of them in charge ever again.
