I don't necessarily like his policies; but history thrusts me to really seriously think about it [voting for Obama]. Black conservatives tell me privately it would be very hard to vote against him in November.
Armstrong Williams, talk show host
Recent comments by well-known black Republicans J.C. Watts and Armstrong Williams that they're conflicted about the upcoming presidential elections and are contemplating voting for Barack Obama have sent shock waves through the Republican Party.
I'm hearing many black Republicans echoing similar sentiments. They say that because of the historical significance of casting a vote for the first legitimate black presidential candidate, they may cross party lines.
These statements don't surprise me.
So, how did black Republicans get to a point where they're willing to abandon their own "values" to vote for a socialist?
To get an understanding of this phenomenon, I recently interviewed several black Republican leaders on my radio program.
Calvin Stephens, chairman of the African-American Republican Leadership Council in Texas, said that he's voting for Obama because this is a "black pride moment!"
Can you imagine if a white person in a similar position even hinted at voting for a candidate because it was a "white pride moment"? That person would be castigated, labeled a "racist" and fired.
Other black Republicans came on my program and repeated the Obama mantra of "change" without defining what that change meant.
I understand now that there's a major difference between a black conservative and a black Republican. A black conservative votes Republican because the party agrees with his values: pro-life, lower taxes, strong defense and strong families, etc.
A real black conservative could never vote for Obama. On the other hand, a black Republican could vote for Obama because he identifies more with color than character.

Could a real conservative of any color vote for McCain?

J.C. Watts had tried to justify his statements of late regarding possibly voting for Obama by saying that the Repub party is not doing enough to reach out to blacks. I've got news for Mr. Watts. The Repub party is not doing enough to reach out to any one--conservatives being at the top of the list.
Real conservatives do not put America in danger because somebody has an ACU rating of only 83.
Real conservatives get their priorities straight.
I can kind of understand the pride but there is another black man they could rally for...a conservative man. This is like me saying I would vote for a woman...any woman...regardless of issues.
Yes. I will do whatever it takes to prevent, by legal means, an avowed socialist and terrorist appeaser from becoming POTUS.
Where does McCain-Feingold and La Raza fit into that “ACU rating”?

It IS about race — and it’s a human nature thing, not to be blamed (well, not TOO much). A lot of Repubs voted for JFK, the first Catholic contestant, just because they were also Catholics.
Like calls to like. That’s why we need a Repub candidate who will run as an true and strong conservative. A lot of Americans, who habitually vote Dem, will respond to a strong program of real conservative values: secure the borders w.o. amnesty; fix social security the right way; limit social programs to the truly needy; etc.
It just has to be real and sincere, without a baggage train a mile long.
It's matter of principle, right. And principle makes it impossible to vote for McCain.
So ... hello Pres. Obama.
Boy, you sure will have shown McCain and the Republican party, huh?
From my perspective? If I am required to compromise my principles in order to prevent my country from falling into the hands of those who would cause her tremendous harm, I would be happy to do so. If I would fight and die for my country, voting to elect McCain over Obama suddenly doesn't seem so bad.
Viva La Raza!
A well thought out and reasoned response. I should have expected nothing less.
there you go .. wasn’t that hard was it?
Do you ever miss the target number?
Muuuuch further down the list than promising to lose a war, promising to gut our nuclear arsenal, promising gut the development of future weapons, appointing Supreme Court Justices that are judicial activists, pro-abortion and would overturned the Heller Second Amendment rights decision, drastically raising taxes and drastically increasing spending.
That is why McCain has an ACU rating of 83 (admittedly not 99) and Obama has an ACU rating of 8.
Ha ha ! You missed ! :-P
Excelent comment.

I find these guys’ argument totally bogus. I’m a “white Republican” and I don’t have any problem NOT VOTING for Obama’s white half. He’s a lying, tax raising Marxist. I don’t see why people are having a problem understanding that.
Correction: 65 in 2006.
This is old hash that has been settled.
In the past several days I have heard J.C. Watts
interviewed and he is voting for McCain
A Presidential candidate using the language that foreign-born American citizens are most fluent in.
Oy vey! That must be the first time that has EVER happened in American history.

The Facts about the Candidate, by Byron Andrews . . . Translated by Rabbi Simon . . .
McCain is to the right of Obama on virtually every issue.
Considering the choice is between these two Democrat sponspored candidates, what would you do to try to keep America somewhat on course?
Or are you planning to sit out the vote or register a “protest” vote that will amount to a few percent and probably hand Obama the White House?
Third Party candidates are anti war which is a direct surrender to Al-Qaida and every other IslamOfascist
terror group whose goal is to destroy America and all other
countries who will not become subjects of Muslims.
I have relatives serving in Iraq, Afgan, and Africa
Grow up, this is not a pissing contest this is life or death
Did we go through a time warp?
I though the year was 2008 so the latest ACU ratings would be for 2007.
Why would you ignore a lifetime ACU rating of 83 to focus on a single year rating that is not the latest single year rating?
Oh, must be because McCain's ACU rating for 2007 was 80.
In 2007, Barack Obama got an ACU rating of 7.
So, why are you trying your best to help Barack Obama become the next President of the United States?
That’s it.
A real conservative will never vote for Obama.
There are lots of people for whom identity politics trumps all other politics. They’re called Democrats, and in a better world they would have no place in the GOP.
And how did McCain-Feingold and La Raza faciltator figure into that number?
Is Hillary to the right of Obama? How about Ted Kennedy?
The 9/11 terrorists took advantage of the open border policies McCain promotes.
Citizens?

Re Obama as President — I agree with all your thoughts on the matter, i.e., the singing of the national anthem outrage of the past week and all the rest.
I will admit, I have to hold my nose to vote for McPain, but OboBo??? Give me a break.
Obama: 7 in 2007, 8 in 2006, 7.67 lifetime.
There are your choices. The primaries are over.
