Tired of having his patriotism questioned, the Democratic candidate has made Old Glory a major visual element of his campaign.
Barack Obama, who once considered flag pins a shallow symbol, can't surround himself with enough patriotic trappings these days.
At the Fourth of July parade here, Obama sat in the reviewing stand with his wife and two young daughters, admiring the simple floats dedicated to rescue workers and local high schools.
He seldom goes out in public now without a flag pin stuck in his lapel. He devoted an entire speech to patriotism this week in Independence, Mo. Visually reinforcing the message, he stood in front of a quartet of large American flags.
None of this is an accident. Polling shows that on the threshold test any serious presidential candidate must pass, Obama has ground to cover.
A CNN poll released one day after the Illinois senator gave his patriotism speech showed that a quarter of registered voters surveyed questioned Obama's love of country. Nearly 30% of the respondents who described themselves as independents -- a coveted slice of the electorate -- believed he lacks patriotism, according to the survey.
So Obama wants to convince voters that he is every bit as patriotic as his Republican opponent.

Obama is laughable. In order to “prove” his patriotism, he stopped wearing the flag lapel pin and refused to put his hand over his heart for the Pledge. He’s so above us that he is actually post-patriotic. /sarc

The latest thing that we can’t question is Obama’s patriotism. It’s obvious that he is a separatist and a marxist. When they say “patriotism”, they mean “love the country as long as it is a marxist collectivity”.
It really is so obvious. These people(Obamas, Clintoons, Demonrats) are the consummate sleazy politicians who will do/say anything to get elected. And there’s way too much evidence that proves that Obama is the typical OJ jury-type that makes up the black Demonrats. And ironic that Obama will not exactly be a shining example of a black ‘leader’. Demonrats are not about quality. They are about fraud, affirmative action, and masquerades. Obama will officially kill this country.

Yesterday at the July 4 street fair there were Obamabots galore (not to mention Iraq antiwar protesters, Amnesty International, peace activists and Dem booths). One group (liberal white guilt on full display) had the eerie Blue and red obama posters and several ones I thought very disrespectful to the presidency and in fact condescending toward their candidate - “Obama for Top Man” or something like it. These people have GOT to be disappointed in November!
