Lucknow: A Dalit woman committed suicide Saturday by setting herself on fire in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad district to evade a rape attempt by her neighbour, police said.
Family members alleged that she took the extreme step to evade a rape attempt by a neighbour in Faizabad, about 150 km from here.
"The woman, in her dying statement to the magistrate, seconded the allegations made by her husband Rajaram, but died before naming the person," Faizabad police chief R K S Rathore told IANS.
The woman stated that she was alone in the house when a youth scaled the wall and tried to grab her, said Rathore.
"She rushed towards the kitchen and set herself on fire," he added.
The police have detained a youth of the same locality for questioning, an official said.
The Religion of Peace?
Death over rape? Pretty stupid.
You think?
You might want to get your asbestos pajamas on.
She would have been buried to the neck and stoned to death anyways had the perp raped her. This is Islam, and rape is still dishonoring the husband.
why didn’t she set HIM on fire??????????
I have my doubt that events transpired the way they’re claiming. And, your post only reinforces my skepticism.
Maybe it was her husband that set her on fire for some offense and she was to afraid to tell the truth.
Islam, Satan’s pyramid scheme.
I think Dalit is “untouchable”, Hindu without a caste, lowest of the low.
Not Islam, at least not the woman, see above.
You’re right. Hindu and Dalits are the bricklayers, the butchers and leatherworkers, the carcass removalists, the ones who empty the outhouses, only fit (per the caste system) to the the lowliest of jobs.
Dalit means she is Hindu not Muslim. Will fellow freepers stop automatically associating every Indian they hear about in the news as ‘Muslim’ who make up only 10% of the population in that country. This type of worldly ignorance really does reinforce negative stereotypes about us. Please go out and read a little more about the world....
