He's not president yet, but Barack Obama has already given some thought to White House decor.
Asked at a town hall-style meeting in Fargo, N.D., about any decorating plans for the Lincoln Bedroom, Obama described a visit to the White House after he became a U.S. senator.
"You have all these mementos of Abraham Lincoln, but you have this flat-screen TV in there," Obama told the crowd at the outdoor event.

Never thought I’d say it...I agree with him on the TV.
I have a vision for the Lincoln Bedroom... To keep Obama out of it!
Oh yeah, saw this - the twit thinks there should only be reading allowed in the Lincoln bedroom - probably only Cone’s work.
They didn’t have television when Lincoln was alive, so they should just have an old, wooden, bedside tube radio. ;-)

And when people become THIS freaking STUPID and inattentive to their freedoms, THIS is the candidate they deserve.

Hurry before some diversity loving (RIGHT!) Obamaniac at YouTube pulls it.
I now agree with him on ONE thing. There will never be enough “things”, though, to vote for him...
How about a “Lawn Jockey?”
There’ll be plenty of posters of Che placed throughout the White House....just like the one you can find in his Houston campaign office.
I’d like to hear Bill Clinton’s thoughts on Obama’s idea.
Well, I agree with Obama—probably for the first time. We don’t have TVs in any of our bedrooms, and I fail to see why they should have them in the guest bedrooms of the White House.
A few books would be just fine.
Ahhhhhhh..........yes. But...is he telling the TRUTH?
OOOPS, I never should have said “re-reading” the Gettysburg Address when referring to Clintonista hacks from Hollyweird — I doubt that many of them have ever read it once.
Waht’s the Democrat going rate for he Lincoln Bedroom? $50,000 per night?
Better keep teh flat screen Hussein — the people bribing you will want it that way.
Hate to admit it but I agree with him on this. The White House is a special, historic place. I think some care has to be taken with things like the Lincoln Bedroom. If someone’s staying over, they can do without a TV for a few nights. How often do you get to soak in the ambience of the Lincoln Bedroom and all the history there? Sitting there with the remote, watching Leno? Hmmm, not quite what I envision.
One thing is certain: The Slickster had a very different "vision" for that bedroom.
That picture is Exhibit A for how the Clintons and their friends treated the White House. And don’t even get me started on what Bill did in and around the Oval Office.
Well, maybe the twit seems arrogant when he tries to re-decorate the WH when he hasn’t even won the nomination of his own party yet, ya think?
He's probably lying about the TV being in the room.

You actually believe him?
The f**king arrogance is unbelievable. We MUST unite to defeat this pretender and his vile wife.
I can agree with him on the TV also, but from what I’ve heard, Bill Clinton and Babs Streisand did NOT read in the Lincoln bedroom.

Does the idiot think it was Lincoln’s bedroom?
There are some chairs used by Lincoln’s cabinet, a desk he used at the Soldier’s Home, and a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, but not a lot of real “Lincoln memorabilia”. The room was decorated in Victorian style by the Trumans.
A flat screen TV is relatively unobtrusive and no problem in a room that had little to do with Lincoln other than being part of his office suite.
Ummm... when was electricity invented? And the radio?
I'm saying I agree with what he said. Do I believe he said it? Yes. It's quoted. Do I believe he's lying? I have no idea. But why? It was basically a light question at a town meeting and he answered it. I don't think it was some elaborate lie he's had in his hip pocket just waiting for someone to ask him about redecoration of the Lincoln Bedroom.
Reread the Gettysburg Address? Does he realize how short that speech is? You could read it twenty times in ten minutes.
When did they invent the smilie? You missed it in my original message.
273 words, IIRC
It doesn’t take long to read it, but it is worth discussing at length - fwiw, I’m reading a good biography of Lincoln right now, the one by David Herbert Donald. I recommend it highly.
So, does anyone know whatever happened to Markie Post? Haven’t seen that name or face since the court house TV show went off the air.
ha ha, well radio hadn’t been invented yet either - but they did have the telegraph, so maybe the Lincoln Bedroom should have a vintage telegraph machine click-clacking away..... not that Lincoln or any politicians would have had personal use of a telegraph machine, they had clerks to send and receive the messages, but it might be fun to have guests in the Lincoln Bedroom experience the forms of communication available in that era!

I stayed at a hotel in the deco of the Metro Goldywn Era of the 40’s my floor apporpriate to my visit was Musicals of the 30s/40s and lovely jazz of the day playing in the room.
With a flat screen tv too.
Never turned the thing on as I did not want to ruin the mood of respite with media.....untill the morning I left weather/traffic for my trip home.
So I say leave it to the resident of the room to on/off the tv.
And I totally respect the choice those who choose not to have a tv in there home but the White House would have been his dwelling if he had won the election.
Given the historical nature of the room (Lincoln's Cabinet Room), I highly doubt that President and Mrs. Bush had a flat-screen TV installed permanently in the room as Obama wants folks to believe. Besides the history of the room, the bed is special too. Although Lincoln never slept in it himself, it is the bed his son Willie died in.
An elaborate lie he had in his hip pocket? Yeah, we're talking about Barack Hussein Obama here, not Art Linkletter.
He probably wouldn't be able to memorize it and say it without the use of a teleprompter.
And replace it with my Big Bro screen.
what tacky furniture!
i like danish, swedish and finnish modern.
Me too. Perhaps President McCain will take his redecorating tips under advisement.
I agree. A TV in the Lincoln Bedroom sort of CHEAPENS the history of the room wouldn’t you say?
Why do you call him arrogant? If he wins the general election the White House will be his home for the next four years. If he wants to remove a TV from a famous location as the Lincoln Bedroom why do you view that as arrogance? I move things around my house because I am living here. There’s nothing arrogant about it. And...why do you bring Mrs. Obama into it anyway?
