Census Bureau Doesn't Count Same-Sex Marriages

Many Californians applauded the state Supreme Court decision to allow same-sex couples to marry. Hundreds more raced to have their partnerships officially recognized by the state. But now, same-sex newlyweds in both California and Massachusetts are facing a different battle: being counted.

The U.S. Census Bureau, reacting to the federal Defense of Marriage Act and similar mandates, will edit responses from same-sex couples who marry legally in California and Massachusetts for the 2010 census, changing their responses from "married" to "unmarried partner." The move has infuriated some LGBT civil-rights groups.

"This is not an acceptable way to count same-sex couples," says Gary Gates of the Williams Institute, a think-tank at UCLA's law school, which tracks LGBT-related public-policy issues. "I don't think it's appropriate to alter potentially valid responses with limited evidence. This makes visible people invisible."

Count federally-illegal "marriages" after we get done counting federally-illegal "immigrants", yo? And as to altering potentially valid responses with limited evidence, let those of us born here go to the forms and check the race/heritage box for "Native American".

in both California and Massachusetts...

Imagine standing up 50 BIG dominoes, with the first one on Massachusetts, and the other on California. Both endpoints teetering...

Personally I think the census should be very limited in the questions asked. Things like how many adults and children in the house. Illegals should be excluded.

Most did not. That is why the homosexual lobby has been trying so hard to keep the issue off of the ballot.

Yes. That’s just above Rottencrotch where Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears have vacation homes.

From article: The U.S. Census Bureau, reacting to the federal Defense of Marriage Act

No. The US Census bureau is following the law, the federal law - they are not "reacting" to the law. Unlike what is done in CA, where Dem Politicians only OBEY THE LAWS THEY "AGREE WITH".

Prop 209. dig it, CA Dems. Even after 209 was put into the state constitution, Democrats throughout the state and in the MEDIA openly announced they were NOT going to obey THIS law.

And they didn't.

Of course it is.
Your so-called marriages are a sham and should not be counted as anything

Unfortunately the Constitution requires counting illegals--the 14th amendment (written when almost anyone could come into the country, at least those able to work) mandates counting "the whole number of persons in each State" for purposes of Congressional representation.

Because illegals are undercounted (not wanting contact with the government), the Clintons wanted to replace the requirement of counting people with having the census bureau guess how many people were living in a given place.

The LGBTPedo crowd is always infuriated about something.

Pretty unpleasant people if you ask me.

Perhaps I should tell the census-takers that I identify as a merecat and should be counted as such. Oh, the horrors if they won’t kowtow to my whim...

Yeah, I remember that. It’s time to amend the Constitution to correct this problem.

“Diversity Inc”....truly one of the most vile publications in America. Read it and be stunned at this parallel universe working within every facet of our industry, government and society to undermine and tear this nation apart.

Gays want “civil rights” the way that African-Americans get them. But they don’t want to be counted on the Census the way African-Americans are because then the truth about how few their numbers are will be known.
