Massive expense, a mainstage for any special interest group waiting to exploit the media focus, infrastructure built specifically for the event that turn into unused eye sores when the games are over...on and on and on..

You sound like you have been there. What can you tell us about it?

As many suspected, troubles spring up in the outlying provinces where there is no heavy security. Chinese security could manage to cover Beijing and other Olympic venues, known trouble area like Tibet and Xinjiang. On the other hand, they would have difficulty dealing with troubles in the rest of China.

I can't see Tibetians doing that sort of thing. Could be that other group that adopted Islam (grave error) and now think becoming terrorists will win their independence from China.

That's a really strange picture, actually. The street is clean around the bus despite the fact that all of the windows are (apparently) blown out; the tires are intact....

It'd be nice to have an explanation for those oddities.

There is a rop movement going on over there. Recently, China destroyed a # of mosques that were being used for terrorist training centers. Kinda redundant??

I know we all hate wiki but..I think it was these guys who I was thinking about when I asked if it was a ROP area..I read about some other groups and bombings over there as well (also rop)
