For Romney, now's the time to sweat
The Boston Globe ^ | July 22nd | Globe Staff

Posted on 07/22/2008 2:19:20 PM PDT by ConservativeMan55

WASHINGTON - Mitt Romney is a shrewd businessman, known for his cautious approach to the nerve-rattling takeover business. Romney's colleagues even came up for a name for what happened when Romney's inner worries began to ruffle his carefully groomed appearance - "pitting," for when the armpits of his expensive blue shirts would start to darken from perspiration.

From the article:

"A killer Romney ad in New Hampshire not only alluded to McCain's age
but also showed average voters suggesting he was a tool of Washington,
perhaps the accusation of which the maverick McCain is least guilty."

McCain would be a fool to pick Romney:

Romney Tanks McCain

He is just as poor a candidate for VP as he was for president. You can't turn a dung heap into a silk purse.

Says you.

But that's not what the voters thought during the primaries.

Romney always captured the more Conservative vote in each state.

Still relying on DNC exit polls, Con-Man?

1) Romney LOST Florida.

2) The big story today is:
Americans have the best cancer survival rates
Healthcare Economist July 22, 2008
"Yesterday, the Economist reported on an article in The Lancet Oncology journal which found that the U.S.
has the best five year survival probabilities for breast and prostate cancer.
Score one for those against universal health care.
“The American free market is always the best!”

Oh Oh., more victims coming from Dictator Romney's fascist socialized medicine, HillaryCARE=RomneyCARE
which he imposed without a citizen's vote.

I’m warming up to the man. He’s a solid pick. NOt a WOW like Dick Morris says McCAin needs, but someone who can work well with different groups and esp industry.

BUT before the ink is dry on my post, I’m sure there will be a bunch of negative comments from the McCAin haters, bashing Romney as well.

I think we can win this election in a landslide if we all come together like we did in 2004.

More DNC exit polls, Con-Man? (yawn)
How about explaining Romney's hatred for heroes in uniform?
After all, it will negate Sen. McCain's biggest issue.

National Guard Lt. Anthony Circosta poses in his backyard in Agawam, Mass., on June 9, 2007.
At left, his wife Danielle and daughter Kylie, 2, talk near the swing set. Circosta,
a decorated Iraq War veteran, seemed like an ideal candidate for a pardon from
then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the 29-year-old's boyhood conviction
for a BB gun shooting.
Romney denied the pardon, twice, despite the recommendation of the governor's council.

Yes, I agree. The guy is mediocre at best.

Kennedy was great because he had been there. He had a different confidence. Bush does too. Petreus and others, esp world leaders of other countries will see through this guy. I don’t think he’d be qualified to hold a high office in Kenya.

President of the United States. You got to be kidding me....

Very interesting polling data from these two states. It has often been said that Romney never got a “majority” of the conservative vote; however, when you realize how many candidates were running at this time, it is easy to see that Romney overwhelmingly received the bulk of the conservative vote in relation to the other candidates.

Although Romney has hardly been the standard-bearer for conservative ideology, it is clear that conservative voters in the primaries considered him the most desirable candidate compared to the other choices available.

Exactly.

"Mitt tanks the ticket," says a McCain insider. "We lose fiscal conservatives.
We lose social conservatives. We lose Catholics. We lose evangelicals.
All the groups were spending time and money on bringing into the camp would be lost.
He just doesn't help us enough to do something like this, as much as Mitt might think we should.
He doesn't even win us Massachusetts."

ROFLOLOL Some people need to get over Mitt's religion and pay close attention to his record as a businessman and governor.

HICKABEE is the reason we are in the mess we're in and if that is McCain's choice, then this woman will sit at the house and “NOT” vote.

Maybe four years of Obambo would wake people such as yourself UP!

I don’t know.

When Fred dropped out, it took me by surprise, considering that many of the early votes were already cast for him in Florida, but a peek at the internals here is probably what prompted Fred to drop out.

McCain was pretty strong here - no, he did not get my vote - and I predict that he will take Florida by 4 - 5 points, but IMO, Romney sews it up here. He is popular.
If he can force the big Hussein to defend a state or two that went blue in 04, it could be the edge that McC needs.

We shall see. - Thanks - Bill

The only electoral-strategic reason to pick Romney is that he might well put Michigan into play and perhaps some of the northeastern states.

Having said that, McCain is no doubt going to be looking hard at Rudy-Tooty (groan) for the same basic reason, *possibly* putting New York in play.

It can be safely assumed that Obama will most likely carry Illinois, and with the possible exception of Duncan Hunter, there are no California Republicans with even a remote chance of putting that state into play.

It comes down to McCain going after Michigan’s electoral votes, or New York’s. McCain can probably carry the South and West, but he needs to shake things up.

From the article...

Romney, whose business career has given him literally a wealth of credibility on money matters, was at his most effective during the primaries when talking about economic issues, so there's little doubt that Romney would be an asset to McCain.

This is precisely why the DEMS don't want Romney as our VEEP.

C-MAN, thanks for the article.

Look...don’t give me the religion thing. I don’t give a rats pattootie about his religion (I married a Mormon and she does not support him either). He has an outstanding record as a businessman and a dismal liberal record as governor.

We don’t want nObama to be elected and Mitt is not the solution to that problem as evidenced by the link provided in post #8.

Just like nObama there are a group of kool-aid drinkers who refuse to face the reality of Mitt Romney. He’s a flaming social liberal that we don’t need anywhere near the White House.

Actually, the Democrats DO want Romney as Sen.McCain's losing VP.

Read their own words.

Since you keep posting those dumb exit polls, I guess you agree with those voters. You think Romney is more conservative than Fred Thompson.

I’d like to hear you explain that one.

Remember, when the GOP primary season was in full swing, FReepers were supporting two main candidates -— Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. Willard was getting very little support on Free republic and rightly so. Romney is a liberal.

Why don't you guys give it a rest? Please. If you don't like the Mormon religion, fine. *shrug* Who cares? But does it have to become the central focus of every single thread that mentions Romney's name? Every single time? eeesh.

No, I'm still not a Mormon. Just tired of reading 8 pages of biblical scripture on every thread, every single thread about Mitt Romney who I never got to read much about because I have to wade through all this crap posted on every single thread, proving to the entire planet according to the CC/GreyF/Cal Mormon Hater Crew that Mormonism is a tool of the devil and causes acne and sweaty feet and blah blah blah.
