BREAKING NEWS: Warren Jeffs, 5 others indicted in Schleicher County (FLDS)
GO San Angelo ^ | July 22, 2008 | Matt Phinney

Posted on 07/22/2008 6:14:40 PM PDT by greyfoxx39

ELDORADO - A Schleicher County grand jury issued indictments today against Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints leader Warren Jeffs and five other sect members, alleging sexual assault, bigamy and related charges.

Jeffs was charged with sexually assaulting a child, a first-degree felony, and the four others were indicted on allegations of sexually assaulting girls younger than 17. Each of those four face one felony count of sexual assault, and one faces an additional charge of bigamy.

Jeffs was identified because he was served with the indictment in jail. The other four remain unidentified until they are served.

"The indictments issued today are part of an ongoing and continuing criminal investigation," a news release from Attorney General Greg Abbott's office said.

Good.

But a second question is why did they have to separate 400 children from their parents for 6 indictments? Talk about overkill.

Good.

No. This is not good.

This means they found evidence of abuse of children..how is that good? Wouldn't it be better if they'd found that everything was okay?!?

But a second question is why did they have to separate 400 children from their parents for 6 indictments? Talk about overkill.

Agreed.

Good, not good?

Well, it shows they were justified in their investigation, and since they did remove all the children for a little while, apparently it was a good thing they did.

It would have been better if there had been no crimes, but there were.

Or, you can ignore the evidence that has been piling up since day one, and believe there were no crimes.

Yes, it is good. Good that they are rounding up the perverts. The fact that they abused children, (to be proven in court) is history.

One needs a court of law to determine ‘guilt’.

One does not need a court of law to determine there was a crime.

Using the ‘mantra’ that there was no crime because no one has been found ‘guilty’ yet, and because the LE and CPS do not release all their ‘evidence’ to the public before it goes to trial, is..... well, you know.

“400 children from their parents for 6 indictments? “

I don’t know. How many wives does Warren have?

How many children?

400 children was spread among how many ‘fathers’?

Are there only going to be 6 indictments, or will there be more?

How many children does each of the men indicted have?
How many wives do they have?

Maybe there is a reason CPS had to take all the children.
Maybe, some time during the trials, we will find out.

Wouldn't it have been really cool if they brought that out during the hearings?

If it's not something that had to be withheld for this prosecution, then the people responsible should be PERSONALLY liable for the denial of rights and the millions and millions and millions of dollars this has cost.

It would. It would have to be something like “dangerous environment” though, to qualify taking all the children.

The grand jury handed down seven indictments, which contained a total of nine charges. Jeffs, currently awaiting trial in Arizona, is accused of one first-degree felony count of sexually assaulting a child.

Four other men were indicted for allegedly sexually assaulting girls under the age of 17. Each of those suspects faces one felony count of sex assault, and one faces an additional charge of bigamy.

The final defendant has been charged with three counts of failure to report child abuse.

I wonder if the final defendant is a woman . . . maybe Annette.

"The dictation indicates that Teresa's own father officiated over the marriage and further indicates that Annette Jeffs actively encouraged and participated in carrying out the marriage between a barely 15-year-old Teresa and a 34-year-old adult male, who has been identified to CASA as Raymond Jessop," the report said.

I agree. Warren was totally arrogant, and showed no concern for the legal rights of his members. Even now he is only concerned about protecting himself, and his money (which has dried up).

"The indictments issued today are part of an ongoing and continuing criminal investigation," said (Texas AG) Abbott, who, in an unusual move, participated in the grand jury's day-long hearing. He praised Texas Rangers and other law enforcement for gathering the evidence presented to jurors.

Some witnesses have been asked to return to another grand jury session scheduled for Aug. 21

That’s not always true. Suppose, for example, I claim I was in fear for my life and shot an intruder, killing him in self defense. The DA claim I panicked, used unnecessary force, and should be convicted of Second-Degree murder.

The jury in this scenario would determine whether or not my actions constituted a crime.

The FLDS has started a petition, with comments allowed, about the upcoming senate hearing. Lots of FLDS'ers have signed, including Lurene and Rulon Keates.

I've commented several times - actually asked Rulon about his lying on TV about not having a daughter.

Unfortunately, they keep on removing my posts.

The *there’s no forced marriages* here crowd?

The more wholesome than Mom’s apple pie crowd?

Really?

Who woulda thought?

Determining guilt is a matter of reviewing all available evidence and determining what happened. Being found guilty in court is another thing, OJ etc.

A verdict in a court of law only determines the civil penalty you pay. You can be guilty as the day is long and a verdict of *not guilty* doesn’t change that fact. All it does is prevent you from paying fines or serving jail time.

Fortunately, God knows and nobody is going to be able to con Him.

BTW, many FReepers have determined innocence without feeling the need for a trial and that’s a great a disservice to the victims of a crime and just as wrong as determining guilt without a trial is to the accused.

Both are miscarriages of justice.

I don’t. I hope the State of Texas follows the law, has trials for the indicted, and those found guilty in a court of law are sentenced accordingly.
