Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Wednesday he does not want to be considered as vice president on the GOP ticket, making him among a growing number of those pulling themselves out of the race.
” I look forward to continuing to be governor of Louisiana. This is a once in a lifetime chance to improve our state. We’ve cut six taxes but we’ve got a lot more work to do right here in Louisiana,” Jindal told “FOX & Friends” on Wednesday.

Jindal is a real conservative republican. He knows joining this ticket would push him to the center. Its not his time.
However, there will be 100 people on FR who will be complaining tomorrow that they read somewhere that Jindal’s name is up for consideration.
Smart man- he has a much better chance in the future with a solid record with a least one full term at LA Governor than by tying his fate to McCain.
I agree. Teaming up with McCain would serve to harm Jindal in the long run.
I hope Jindal can be part of the solution to help pick up the pieces after McCain or, God forbid, Obama.
His success at the next level will be due to his achievements in reforming the great state of Louisiana. Jumping up to run on a national ticket now makes little sense. He is only 36 years old, anyway....that’s literally half of McCain’s age, which would probably not be an asset

Jindal is smart to rule himself out.
Whom should Sen. McCain choose, for his running-mate? I think that, since he’s a westerner who has been a U.S. senator and representative, he should balance the ticket by choosing a conservative who has been a governor from a state that is in the eastern half of the U.S. John Ashcroft would be the perfect choice. Although he ran for re-election to the U.S. Senate and lost to a dead man, he was later the U.S. Attorney General for four years, during the war against terrorism. That experience would help him, as the running-mate and as the VP.
If McCain wins the election, whom should he nominate for some cabinet positions? I think that he should nominate these people: Secretary of State, Dirk Kempthorne; Sec. of Treasury, Ed Schafer; Sec. of Defense, Mel Martinez; Sec. of Homeland Security, Asa Hutchison; Attorney General, John Sweeney; Sec. of the Interior, Richard Pombo; Secretary of Agriculture, Frank Keating; and Chief of Staff, Newt Gingrich.
I don’t recall seeing this picture with Hunter in it.
Could Hunter actually be on the list? In my opinion, that’s the “Cheney” pick, lots of experience, quiet, conservative, sticks to principles, doesn’t give a rats ass about what other pols think, has already pulled himself out of reelection contention, doesn’t appear to be a power hungry pol like the rest of them.
Do you really want to do that to her, she has a future, no sense in killing it so soon.

Of all these names I support Ridge the most, conditioned solely on the fact that he takes the pro life pledge identical to the one GHWB took at Reagan’s insistence in 1980. But, I still hope he picks Sarah.
Thinking in the long term, Jindal is one of our best prospects- why waste him on McCain? I am not a huge Romney fan but he would not be a horrible choice for the job of VP- experience and talent to take over if something happens to McCain. The ability of VPs to bring in votes in overestimated, IMO.
Good judgment on Jindal’s part. He will finish a very successful governorship and his credibility will increase ten fold.
Ridge is sooo boring. We don’t need another boring candidate on the ticket. Ridge is a competent administrator, not a great politician.
My take exactly. I never cared for Romney that much, but he brings talents that McCain needs. I think he’d make a great VP.
Sorry, y’all. It’ll be Mitt. Mitt’s got the money and just enough conservative views to appease some of the base. Also, the money. Mitt’s waaay rich, and he’s more than willing to throw a lot of that cash behind McCain’s effort in order to position himself for the nomination in 2012. Win or lose.
It’s too bad that such naked ambition will be rewarded by McCain.
This is not news, Jindal's statement is verbatim what he has been saying for months, and has not taken Jindal the least bit out of contention.
Compare Jindal's statement to the Sherman's definitive rendering:

I actually like Ridge more than Romney. I agree with Rahm Emanuel who said that if Ridge is McCain’s choice you can take PA out of the dem column. I also believe OH would safely remain Red with Ridge as VP. But, I still like Palin.
Don’t count on the disgruntled Hillary voter vote. Bottom line, these hags are rabid pro-abortion zealots who ultimately will vote to preserve Roe vs. Wade. Not that any of them would ever have to avail themselves of the service....judging by the looks of most of them.

Wise move. If he took it he’d be acting too soon, with only a few months as governor. Better to wait and maybe run some time in the future when he has proven himself.
Also, if he took it and lost, he would be finished, wiped out, no more chances.
Haley Barbour would make more sense if you want a governor from that part of the country.
The problem is, the conservative movement was gaining momentum during the early Bush years, but nobody was being groomed for the job. And then the pros stuck a lousy RINO into the works.
I’d settle for Fred Thompson, presuming that McCain could twist his arm hard enough to persuade him to run. That would wake up the Evangelical vote, I believe, and pull lin the conservative base.

He’ll bring a majority of Catholics, he’s bigtime pro Second Amendment, he would help keep OH Red and I believe he would help in NH. Ridge is boring, I agree, but he’s also someone McCain trusts, similar to the trust between Bush and Cheney.
With all due respect I don’t agree. I want to make it clear that I’m a Palin fan, not a Ridge fan, but I believe Ridge would put McCain over the top in PA, help keep OH Red, help immensely with the Catholic vote, help Mac in NH and be a loud proponent of the 2nd Amendment. I could go with Ridge (if he takes the pro life pledge), I’m not so sure about Romney.
I just don’t think that Jindal will be the difference between victory and defeat in 2008, and if he is part of a losing campaign (or even a winning campaign and a caretaker presidency) he may damage his future chances for the presidency down the road. Frankly, we can’t afford to waste his potential, IMO.
Blanco was so damaged by her response to Hurricane Katrina that she was asked by the LA state DemocRAT Party not to run for reelection in 2007. Nagin has already been reelected as Mayor of NO.
I just don’t think that Ridge carries that kind of credibility in PA.
I understand but I think ultimately the VP on either side will not be a huge factor on Election Day. Voters will choose between McCain and Obama, and who Americans feel comfortable with as leader of this county.

Bobby has already proven his willingness to tell the media one thing over and over and over again, and then do the exact opposite when it becomes politically expedient.

I don’t have much faith in this guy on this issue... well on just about any issue.
The only "crucial" decisions will be who will be confirmed by the Democrat and RINO Senate. I don't think their would be much difference if McCain or Obama were president. McCain is closer to Kennedy than Obama and McCain would probably let Kennedy do the vetting of any SCOTUS justice. Obama might listen to some other liberal Democrat. The end result will be the same.
