Polish authorities have erected a monument to US president Ronald Reagan, feted for his crusade against communism and seen by some as having hastened the collapse of the Soviet bloc, reports said Tuesday.
Officials in the south-west city of Wroclaw unveiled the monument to the Hollywood actor-turned-president, apparently the first of its kind in Europe, Poland's centrist Dziennik daily reported Tuesday.
"To Ronald Reagan for his struggle against totalitarianism -- from the residents of Wroclaw," reads the caption on the relief plaque erected at an intersection in the city bearing Reagan's name.
During his two terms as president between 1981-1989, Reagan earned the reputation of a 'Cold Warrior' for engaging in an arms race with the Soviet Union and for supporting anti-communist movements like Poland's independent Solidarity trade union.
Under the leadership of the iconic shipyard electrician Lech Walesa, Solidarity negotiated a peaceful end to communism in Poland in 1989.
Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's disease and died aged 93 in 2004.

Ping.
To Obama and the American people: Obama, you are NO Ronald Reagan.
“Too bad we seem to be losing that ability here at home.”
That’s because we haven’t really experienced it. The people who imagine themselves wielding power during a Communist regime would be the first ones shoved against a wall with a bullet penetrating their head.
Because of their “it can’t happen to me” attitude we’ll be the ones suffering. They might get shot, but their problems would be over and ours would begin in earnest.
“...Too bad we seem to be losing that ability here at home...”
Several reasons why:
1. Exactly HOW many former Eastern European immigrants are being legally let in to the country, i.e., those who KNOW first-hand what socialist agitprop sounds like? They’d identify the Dems (and RINOs) in a HEARTBEAT and would fight tooth and nail against it happening here in their new adopted home.
2. HOW many Mexican illegals and other illegals are being let in, i.e., people who stand to benefit from a socialist takeover and “re-structuring” of America? Do the math.
3. History teachers do NOT teach history - they teach feel-good revisionist history or guilt-ridden “Look-at-the-evil-white-man-slave-holder” history. The ONLY mention of socialism is within the context of the Nazis - the Nationale Socializte Deutsche Arbeiter’s Partie - and THEN they teach that that was a RIGHT-WING movement. Socialism IS and always has been a left-wing ideology. Hitler killed the commies because they were political opponents who wanted EXACTLY what he wanted - power.
There’s no mystery at all why people here can’t see it. As Whittaker Chambers (the ex-communist who exposed Alger Hiss for the traitorous communist scumbag that he was) said, it’s a conspiracy so monstrous that the ordinary person can’t believe it to be real.
But it is. And we’re living it, watching it unfold all over again.
They use laws instead of bullets this time; in their minds, it’s easier to “re-build” and “re-educate” people, confiscate and brainwash their children, than it is to rebuild cities. For now.
IMHO.
Ronald Reagan was a blessing and a gift to this country. He is dearly missed. May he rest in peace, in God’s presence; he did his duty for America, and was a true Patriot.
Suggested reading:
Reagan’s War, by Peter Schweizer (especially read this one - details his battles with the communists in Hollywood in the 1940s/50s as president of the Screen Actors Guild - when they threatened to throw acid in his face to destroy his career, because he was exposing them.)
When Character Was King, by Peggy Noonan
I never could understand why Nazi’s are called right wing extremists.
Now would be a good time to suggest Masters of Deceit by J. Edgar Hoover.
It’s out of print but probably available on Amazon or at “The Bookman”.

Those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it.
A nice piece. Thanks for posting.
My father worked with Ronald Reagan in a motion picture crew and respected him highly. Unfortunately, my father was unable to attend a reunion of the crew about 20 years ago due to illness.
“...I never could understand why Nazis are called right wing extremists...”
Simple. They were Socialists, and their policies (and the results) were another logical example of what happens when those people get in control. That being said, the commies in this country didn’t want themselves exposed for who they were, so they conveniently distance themselves from THAT brand of socialism by demonizing it. Just like they moved into the Democrat party; they can spout Marx and Mao all day long, but hey, we’re not socialists, we’re DEMOCRATS!!!
It’s a “Look-at-the-SHINY-thing-but-not-at-me” distraction. Combine that with the racial super-man thing going on in Germany at the time, and a complete lack of FACTUAL historical education in this country now, and you can demonize ANYONE by simply calling them a “Nazi”.
“Masters of Deceit” is well-worth the read.
So is “Gestapo: Instrument of Tyranny” by Edward Cruikshank. Details all the political workings of the Nazi (National SOCIALIST, that is) police state, and how Mueller set it up along the lines of the Soviet (err, International SOCIALIST, that is) NKVD internal security (forerunner of the KGB) whom he idolized.
Also talks at length about why Hitler eventually went after the commies after making a peace treaty with them.
Unfortunately for the leftys, the truth is that the Nazis were part of their political ideology...

President Reagan didn't fight the Soviets alone.
I read George Bernard Shaw’s “Man and Superman” with
emphasis on Don Juan in Hell. What a mindless, brain
numbing waste of time. The upside was that I was
introduced to a long lost champion of the faith, Shaw’s
Godly friend and Christian apologist G. K. Chesterton.
But I digress...
How convenient that Shaw could promote communism
when the money he had to give away belonged to his
wealthy wife. Typical liberalism.
Years ago, as a teenager I sat through 2001 A Space
Odyssey. When it was over, everyone seemed to be
impressed with its deep message. Though I was impressed
with the Blue Danube Waltz, I did not understand the
movie
at all! It was at this moment I applied the
wisdom of Solomon; Even a fool who keeps silent is
considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed
intelligent. (Pr 17:28)
Incidentally, Koheleth plagerized There is nothing
new under the sun. All is vanity from King Solomon
(Eccl 1:2 & 9).
Later I came to realize the movie was an emperor with
no clothes. Orson Wells was correct when he said, some
times a thing is so stupid only an intellectual can
understand it. And so as the philosophers faith
lies in the question, the philosophers hell lies in
never accepting a right answer. Not being a philosopher
I look for an answer to this philosophical hall of mirrors
and find relief in the knowledge that it is all just a
dream. A hellish dream.
