Move over, Rasmussen, and let Howard take over! It's been a wild week, so how about a little comic relief? Turns out Howard Dean does his own personal polling—among his wife's employees. And, surprise! They tend to agree with him! The DNC Chairman was chatting with Tom Brokaw on MSNBC this afternoon. TOM BROKAW: What did you think of Sarah Palin last night? HOWARD DEAN: I think the first half was terrific. I thought she really laid out who she was. I was fascinated. The second half, she sounded like Dick Cheney, she really did. The same old attack stuff,...

DENVER, Aug. 25 -- When Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean officially opened his party's convention Monday night, he could look with satisfaction at the assembled delegates from all 50 states, knowing that many more states are in play this campaign season than were before he took over the party. "Looking out from this podium tonight, I see this diverse assembly of Democrats as a testament to the strength and unity of our party and the fruition of our 50-state strategy," he told the throng as he gaveled the convention to session. "While the Democratic Party is the oldest continuing party...

DENVER, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on the selection of Senator Joe Biden as Barack Obama's running mate: "Senator Obama has made an outstanding selection in Joe Biden. Joe Biden is a strong leader, fierce advocate, and devoted family man with values rooted in the best of what America stands for. He will be a strong partner with Barack Obama in bringing the change America wants and needs. "Delegates here in Denver are already buzzing with strong enthusiasm for the Obama-Biden ticket. "Senator Obama's selection shows that unlike the Bush-McCain way...

In an interview on National Public Radio last week, Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean touted the racial and gender diversity of the Democratic Party to the Republican Party. In what sounded like a slip of the tongue, he momentarily referred to the GOP as the "white party." Paging Dr. Freud. The McCain campaign pounced on the remark. Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and chair of Victory 2008 -- and one of the highest-ranking females in the McCain campaign -- issued a statement calling Dean's comments -- as if they had been intentional -- "insulting, inappropriate, and have no...

Republicans lashed out Friday night at Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean after he called their party the “white” party in a radio interview. The Democratic Party leader was discussing diversity in his own party during the interview, when he apparently slipped and referred to the rival party by color. “Our party has been a no-majority party for a long time. The fact is that the Democratic Party is made up of lots of different people,” Dean said. “If you look at folks of color, even women, they’re more successful in the Democratic Party than they are in the white...

Barack Obama has been fond of playing the race card in this campaign telling his enraptured audiences that Republicans will attack him because he's black, even though no GOP candidate or campaign has done so to date. But, Obama is a newcomer to the racemongering game when compared to Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean. True to form, in a recent interview Dean has once again called the GOP a "white party" attempting to make this campaign about race issues instead of candidates and platforms. This is the sort of cynical, hate-filled garbage that Democrats have universally parlayed as campaign...

It was supposedly a slip, but Dean has made the case before in even more blunt terms. "If you look at folks of color, even women, they're more successful in the Democratic party than they are in the white, uh, excuse me, in the [laughs] Republican party." I suppose Dean hasn't heard of Condi Rice and Colin Powell, the two highest-ranking blacks in American history. But what always strikes me as odd about comments like these, especially from a white guy who used to govern a state with seven black residents, is that this is somehow supposed to be an...

Here is audio of that veritable bastion of wisdom and knowledge - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean - waxing eloquent on how the Republican Party is the "White Party." He actually said it - then caught himself, apologized, and went on. Considering Barack Obama already has 92% of the Black vote, this sounds like a real winning strategy for Dean to follow!

Isn't it ironic how every time the 'race card' is played it is always from a leading member of today's Demockacratic Party. Today, while speaking at a press conference Howard Dean brought race front and center once again when he tauted the Democratic Party as a party where ...

In a story that the Main Stream Media has largely overlooked this summer, rumors are spreading of a growing rift between the Democratic Leadership and gay community. Although the DNC has tried to avoid the publicizing of the events that have occurred this summer, the rift and subsequent fallout is likely to occur prior to election day. A concern that the DNC and Obama campaign both share. There are two events that occurred this summer that are creating problems for both the Obama campaign and DNC. First, Obama sparked limited outrage and raised questions among activists in the gay and...

A story that's not getting a lot of attention, but might blow up in a big way before the election, is that the DNC is getting sued for firing a gay staffer. The Austin American-Statesman has gotten their hands on Dean's deposition and it's great watching Dean kind of squirm on the witness stand, at one time telling his lawyer "I'm used to much worse from Tim Russert." (The deposition was from March of this year.) An excerpt from the article: But an increasingly nasty lawsuit against the DNC, brought by Donald Hitchcock after he was fired as the party’s...

Hillary supporters not giving upBy Sara Burnett, Rocky Mountain News Updated 08:26 p.m., August 5, 2008 Hillary Clinton supporters will march through Denver during the Democratic National Convention to show appreciation for the New York senator's historic primary run and urge the party to place her name in nomination. The city issued a permit Tuesday to Colorado Women Count/Women Vote for a parade on Aug. 26 — the 88th anniversary of women's suffrage and the date Clinton is rumored to be speaking at the DNC. The group also will team with 18 Million Voices, a national organization of Clinton supporters,...

Last month the host committee said it was $10 million short of its $40-million target, but it now refuses to discuss fundraising totals. Officials blame several factors: The drawn-out primary battle sapped would-be donors. And business leaders say attention and money are being diverted by union-led ballot initiatives that they are fighting, measures they insist could destroy their livelihoods. Problems swiftly surfaced, starting with fundraising. The host committee told caterers they should make "every effort" to ensure that each plate consisted of 70% organic food and 50% fruits and vegetables; include nothing fried; and contain at least three of these...

The event Democrats tout as "the greenest convention ever" may be fading into brown. Last week's decision to move Barack Obama's acceptance speech from Denver's Pepsi Center to Invesco Field is expected to magnify the modest carbon footprint the party has boasted about for months. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for including up to 56,000 more people in Obama's Aug. 28 audience, especially if most of them are Coloradans. After all, some things, such as political participation, are more important than greenhouse emissions from one event on one evening in Denver. But it should be noted that the switch...

JOHNSON: Homeless say DNC diversions not for themBy Bill Johnson, Rocky Mountain News (Contact) Thursday, July 17, 2008 Debbie - and this is merely a hunch - will probably be going to jail next month. Unless they are giving away free booze and marijuana at the movies, the zoo or the Nature & Science museum - along with the free tickets to those venues they plan on giving the homeless during Democratic National Convention week - I can't see Debbie budging from the dirt beneath the Speer Boulevard bridge she has called home the past 26 years. There's apparently some grumbling from Hill Democrats about their lack of input into Obama's Democratic victory strategy -- such is par for the course at this quadrennial U.S. Open we call a presidential race. But the Obama campaign has found a smart way to keep the party's reigning elder statesman, Howard Dean, busy: they're sending him on a cross-country voter registration tour. He'll travel in style on a 45 foot long biodisel bus flagged in red, white and blue. The tour kicks off in Crawford, TX on Thursday, heads to Austin where Dean will say hi to peeps at the...

There was a fantastic article today in National Review Online by Kudlow praising Dubya for putting pressure on Congressional Demos to drop ban on offshore drilling. Kudlow writes: "Democrats keep saying that it will take 10 years or longer to produce oil from the offshore areas. And they say that oil prices won’t decline for at least that long. And they, along with Obama and McCain, bash so-called oil speculators. And today we had a real-world example as to why they are wrong. All of them. Reid, Pelosi, Obama, McCain — all of them." Kudlow adds: "Crude-oil futures for August...

From a description of coyotes surrounding our hero, Odd Thomas, and Annamaria in Dean Koontz' latest book, Odd Hours: ...Coyotes can sometime have a goofy charm. They are more closely related to wolves than dogs, lean and sinewy, efficient predators, but with feet too big for their bodies and ears too big for their heads, they can appear a little puppylike, at least as cute as Iran's homicidal dictator when he puts on a leisure suit and has his photo taken eating ice-cream cones with grade-school children whose parents have volunteered them to be suicide bombers. With narrow faces, bared fangs, and...

The host committee for the Democratic National Convention faces a possible shortfall of $15 million, complicating logistics for the August event and forcing it to abruptly postpone a media walkthrough of the site scheduled for next week. The Democratic National Committee has asked the cash-strapped panel to raise $40.6 million by tomorrow to finance the event. Last month, the committee said it had just $25 million in cash, and it has failed to meet each of several fund-raising deadlines since signing a contract with the DNC last year.

Dean delighted that Democrats are worried about ObamaJun 12, 2008 3:00 AM (1 day ago) by Bill Sammon, The Examiner WASHINGTON - Democratic Party chief Howard Dean said Wednesday that Democrats are “really worried” about Barack Obama’s chances in November, although Dean called such unease healthy. “I’m actually thrilled that they’re nervous,” Dean said at a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor newspaper. “I think it’s about time. Last spring, there was this feeling of confidence, that we were just going to roll through everything. And that’s how you lose elections. “So I’m just delighted that Democrats are really...

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain is “running a campaign that is, frankly, pretty sleazy.” Dean has been hitting the McCain campaign particularly hard lately for its ties to lobbyists and blames the McCain camp for leaking the James Johnson story to a reporter at “The Washington Post.” In an interview on MSNBC, Dean says soon-to-be Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s image is no way tarnished for having selected Johnson, the former Fannie Mae CEO, to the team vetting the process of choosing vice presidential candidates for Obama.

In a major shakeup at the Democratic National Committee -- and a departure from tradition -- large parts of the committee's operations are relocating to Chicago to be fully integrated with the Obama campaign. The DNC's political department, housed in Washington, D.C., will be dramatically rebuilt, with staffers offered a choice of moving to Chicago, joining state operations, or staying in Washington, DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney said. But the power will clearly be shifting to a centralized Chicago hub. The DNC's key role in coordinating political operations with state parties is expected to largely be taken over and overseen by...

In previous posts we have written about major discrepancies within the Democratic Primary System, from voter fraud to Caucus misunderstanding and manipulation to the more despicable inequality in the proportional delegation system. In most Democratic primaries the vote has not been close enough for anyone to question whether the system was fair; but this primary process has been different. For years the Democratic Leadership has decried the Republican Party, accusing the party of voter manipulation, intimidation, and disenfranchisement; but those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. For those few who take the time to research how the Democratic...

"The problem with the Republican Party is that they value ideology over what's good for the country," said Dean. "They haven't been willing to work with people to find reasonable middle ground. They've basically adopted a scorched earth policy." He said the GOP practice of ignoring Democrats has reached the White House, which has taken the same approach with foreign governments, a move he said has been "terrible for our national image." He also defended his previous "brain-dead" comments, joking that it was a "clinical diagnosis." Dean is a medical doctor. In assailing Republicans, especially conservatives, he said that there...

WASHINGTON (AP)- Barack Obama, now cast as the Democrats' standard-bearer, moved quickly to put his imprint on the national party Thursday, eager to reinforce its fundraising operation and pursue an aggressive general election campaign. Howard Dean will remain as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, an affirmation by Obama of Dean's bottoms-up rebuilding of the party across all 50 states. Still, Obama is installing one of his top strategists, Paul Tewes, to help expand the DNC staff and oversee party operations. The move puts Obama's ample fundraising machine at the party's disposal. In so doing, Obama imposed on the DNC...

Most conversations about the coming elections focus on the question of which candidate is most suited to lead the nation as it confronts the challenges and threats ahead. A better question would be to ask whether there is one party– the Democratic Party – which has demonstrated in word and deed that it is unfit to lead the nation in war at all. Criticism of government policy is essential to a democracy.

Dean derides ‘sexist’ media coverage By Walter Alarkon Posted: 06/01/08 11:59 AM [ET] Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean on Sunday strongly criticized the media’s coverage of the presidential race, saying it has been sexist. “There has been an enormous amount of sexism in this campaign on the part of the media, including the mainstream media," Dean said on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”. “We’ll leave present company excepted, because I think that’s true. But there have been major networks that have featured numerous outrageous comments that if the words were reversed and they were about race, the people...

Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign on Saturday angrily rejected a compromise deal among Democrats that was aimed at ending a bitter fight over disputed primaries in Florida and Michigan. Clinton's supporters erupted in boos and catcalls after the party's 30-member Rules and Bylaw committee voted to recognize the Florida and Michigan delegates, but award them only half votes at the party's nominating convention this August in Denver. The decision came amid another dramatic development Saturday in the Democratic presidential race. Obama announced he was renouncing his 20-year membership in Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ after a visiting preacher last week...

In an earlier column, I raised the matter of whether, and how, Senator Barack Obama's conspicuous intelligence may act as a barrier to his being elected president. [SNIP] In recent years, Democrats have nominated presidential candidates who are far more intelligent that their Republican counterparts. Common sense might suggest that high intelligence is necessary to be president, and conclude that we should applaud such nominations. Election politics, unfortunately, usually punishes the more intelligent nominee. Start with Nixon. Hubert Humphrey had a remarkable mind and while Nixon was no slouch, Humphrey always struck those who knew both men well as way...
