I got these numbers off of olympic.org. After watching China win events when their athletes actually fell down (women's vault in gymnastics), I thought it would be useful to see what the numbers said from a historical perspective. I think the numbers speak for themselves. Gold Medals by Year 1992 USA=37; China=16 1996 USA=44; China=16 2000 USA=37; China=28 2004 USA=36; China=32 2008 (to date) USA=29; China=46

DENVER (AP) _ The American Civil Liberties Union said Thursday it will not appeal a federal judge's ruling that upheld the city's decision to limit protests during the Democratic National Convention to a fenced-in demonstration zone, and to end all marches more than a quarter-mile from the site.

Court grants injunction to stop woman cutting off man's penis A MAN was yesterday granted a court injunction to stop a woman trying to cut off his penis. Tony Goodchild was granted the domestic violence order against his former girlfriend. He told Darwin Magistrates Court the woman was trying to hunt him down and threatening to "cut his penis off''. The unusual application caused laughter in the courtroom. But the Northern Territory News reported Mr Goodchild -- who was shaking and carrying two backpacks during the hearing -- said he had been in hiding in the long grass from his...

Last week, radio talk-show host Michael Savage talked about autism: I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, `Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.” I’m not an impartial observer here. My six-year-old son has high-functioning autism. He is exactly the...

Forgive the vanity post. I'm trying to resolve in my head, how the Clintons are going to eliminate Obama and come away from the Denver convention as the democRAT party nominee for POTUS. I have been pondering the possibilities and think that the key to this now is John Edwards. Remember.... deny, delay, destroy. The Clinton Modus Operandi Edwards also only suspended his campaign, and did not end it and release his delegates. Is this accurate? I believe it is. I'm sure that the Clintons have told Edwards that if his delegates vote for Obama, Edwards is going to jail...

As fans from all over the world converge on Memphis, Tennessee to celebrate "Elvis Week" it's a good time to remember and reflect. Photo of Graceland at Twilight taken by Aleksandra Rebic August 2007 I first went inside when they had just opened the house on the hill in Memphis. It was the summer of 1982. What had once been just a man and his talent had long since been elevated to legend, and legend had become a full-blown phenomenon. I never met him, never knew him, but there we were, my family and I, going to his house, not...

Fist I would like to address a political issue. It seem to me that our politicians have outgrown the people they have sworn to help . When our country had two parties "R" & "D" it seemed to work as a counter balance between Ideologies. As Our system evolved the parties became more about power both their own and then there parties. It has grown so out of control they are willing to walk away from very important issues to the American people and then blame the other party for delaying or shelving important bills. Social security, health care and...

So how should Freepers feel about the Olympics? Should we write about it, post about it or covering it in any way? I feel that every American (including President Bush) that are in attendance at the Olympics are traitors to democracy and civilization. These commie bastards are our enemies. Each and every Chinese citizen (and I use that term citizen very euphemistically), each man, woman and child are enemies to the USA, the west, and basic civilization. They look at us as enemies and we should return the favor. Look where pretending that "they really don't mean it" got us...

The fastest path to socialism Thursday, July 31, 2008 Have no doubt about it: Health and environmental scares have robbed this generation of the age of prosperity and freedom that was their birthright, for which their forefathers fought and died. The continual shift of labor and resources from the economically productive sector to the regulatory system and compensation culture has cost all of us billions of dollars. The tobacco settlement and the massive amount of money it generated for anti-smokers is a perfect example. The propaganda it has paid for and the friends it as bought are now rolling over...

Two men who changed history never met, but they should have. They had an enormous impact on each other’s lives. They both were men of war. One would survive. The other would not. The following gives voice to General Draza Mihailovich, the one who did not survive, and what he might have said to the one who did, the great Statesman Winston Churchill, had he had the chance to do so. Dear Winston, During a critical period in the history of the world, our paths crossed in a fateful way, though we would never meet. I would die first, without...

An English teenager died from complications two weeks after taking two abortion pills, her mother told an inquest into her death this week.Manon Jones, 18, described by her mother as a devout Christian teen, opted to terminate her pregnancy at six weeks because she feared the pregnancy would cause conflict within her "Muslim" boyfriend's family, the Daily Mail reported Friday. It was not so long ago that the idea that Senator John McCain would even entertain tapping Mitt Romney, his bitterest primary rival, as his running mate would have seemed preposterous, rating at least 7.0 on the strange-bedfellows scale. The McCain-Romney feud was the juiciest of the Republican primary season, featuring two men who generally just did not seem to like each other. Mr. Romney said Mr. McCain would set a “liberal Democrat course as president.” He said that one of Mr. McCain’s proudest accomplishments, his campaign finance bill, took “a whack at the First Amendment,” and told voters grappling...

In countries of the Third World, you often find American men in their fifties or sixties who have wives twenty or twenty-five years younger. In my considerable experience, they seem happy together. However, the arrangement upsets people back in the US. Why, I wonder? A couple of upsettances are common. The first, from feminists, holds that the man is exploiting the woman sexually (a flattering thought to a man in his sixties; more likely, she wishes he were) or that he wants a docile and pliable woman. The view springs from the common notion among American women that a female...

You can still light up in a Dutch cafe after July 1, but only if you're smoking marijuana, not tobacco. Bloomberg reported June 20 that the Netherlands' new indoor-smoking ban allows patrons to smoke inside marijuana "coffee shops" as long as the joint is pure cannabis. But cutting joints with tobacco will be illegal. Tobacco smoking also will be banned in other public places except in separate, unstaffed rooms. "Every customer will have to learn how to smoke pure,'' said Robert Kempen, co-owner of The NooN and Mellow Yellow Amsterdam coffee shops. "Sales will definitely fall," said Rida Oulad, a...

Donald Young, a vibrant, charismatic choir director at one of Chicago's largest open and affirming black congregations, Trinity United Church of Christ, was found shot to death this past Sunday in his home. Young,47, was a longtime member of Trinity's choir, initially singing bass and then moving up the ranks to become one of its most electrifying and popular directors. He was also a faithful attendee at the conferences of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. The details about why and exactly how he died remain unclear; there is, however, one story that emerges with some semblance of clarity: a...

Shop owners in Ontario, Quebec and a few other provinces must now hide tobacco products from their customers under rules that will cover most of Canada by year-end as the country tries to stamp out smoking by young people. The law has its critics, including those who point accusingly at Ontario's provincially owned liquor stores. But advocates say the seemingly draconian measure will eventually work, and is too important to get bogged down by morality.

Gov. Rick Perry hinted Thursday that members of a polygamist sect whose children were recently returned amid a botched sex-abuse investigation should pack their bags, a newspaper reported. Perry, who was in La Baule, France, for a European business conference, said that the state of Texas has an obligation to protect young women from being forced into marriage and underage sex, The Dallas Morning News reported in its online edition. He also warned members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that child sex abuse won't be tolerated and even suggested that followers of the renegade...

Welcome to Derrie-Air, the world's only carbon-neutral luxury airline, where you don't have to choose between living the high life and saving the planet. Nine out of ten scientists agree—we need to reduce our carbon emissions or perish from the face of the earth. Air travel is one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions and global warming. Derrie-Air will be the only airline that plants trees to offset every pound of carbon that our planes release into the atmosphere. But not only will we do our part to protect the environment, we will expect you, our passengers, to do...

Criminal investigation of polygamous sect unimpeded by court wrangling But officials say uncovering crimes is slow work By Mike WardAMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Saturday, May 24, 2008 The state's decision to put hundreds of children from a polygamist sect into foster care bogged down in legal maneuvers this week, but authorities said Friday a criminal investigation into sexual-abuse allegations at the sect's West Texas ranch is moving ahead unimpaired. However, it's unlikely that any charges will be filed soon, officials said. "The Rangers and the DPS are methodically going through all the evidence," said Tela Mange, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department...

Polk County, WI (PRWEB) May 16, 2008 -- Ban the Ban Wisconsin, a nonprofit organization opposing smoking bans, has officially launched their Operation Mollycoddle campaign as of this week. While still keeping with their stated policy of not encourage smoking, the campaign is taking a new direction from previous efforts by specifically targeting the general public instead of the anti-smoking organizations. Operation Mollycoddle was designed for the explicit purpose of encouraging the general public to reclaim themselves as responsible adult citizens who are capable of making their own decisions and counter the overwhelming attitude that people need to be forcibly...

The Left has one thing right. The oilcos are screwing America. What they have wrong is the method they allege. The Left trots out its marxist litany of greed, monopoly, speculation, oppression of the poor, etc. and inf nauseamque. That's where they're dead wrong. Here's exactly how we are being screwed, Left, Right, and Oilco: The United States is the world's third largest oil producer, pumping from established wells that were bought and paid for many times over, and operating steadily with what amounts to federal subsidy in the form of tax incentives and depletion allowances, etc. etc. That oil,...

Over the last few months, celebrations for Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday have drawn attention to the Kentucky native's life and his legacy as president. But the 200-year anniversary of another Kentucky president's birth, Confederate President Jefferson Davis, is receiving mixed reviews. "I'll say it this way - winners write history," said Ron Bryant, a Lexington historian writing a book on Davis. "We need heroes, we need villains. Lincoln became a hero and Davis a villain." Davis was born in what is now Todd County, Ky., in 1808, one year before Lincoln. Davis served as the only president of the 11...

The Miami Dolphins began preliminary talks Tuesday with a representative of Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long on a contract to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, according to two sources close to the discussions. However, Miami’s early move could be used as leverage to put pressure on Long or one of the other top prospects to get a deal done before the draft. For now, it appears that Long, the massive left tackle, is tops on the team’s list. Long’s agent, Tom Condon, met with multiple members of the team’s staff at the Dolphins training facility...

This morning I was sent the following email: > In her senior thesis at Princeton, Michele Obama, the wife of Barack Obama stated that America was a nation founded on crime and hatred. Moreover, she stated that whites in America were ineradicable racist. The 1985 thesis, titled 'Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community' was written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson. Michelle Obama stated in her thesis that to 'Whites at Princeton , it often seems as if, to them, she will always be Black first...' They will tell you the Civil War was not about slavery. Remind them that the president and vice president of the so-called "Confederate States of America" both said it was. They will tell you that great-great grandpa Zeke fought for the South, and he never owned any slaves. Remind them that it is political leaders - not grunts - who decide whether and why a war is waged. They will tell you the flag just celebrates heritage. Remind them that "heritage" is not a synonym for "good." After all, Nazis have a heritage, too.

MOSCOW, March 14 (RIA Novosti) - A court in Macedonia has ordered the government to pay a $3,500 fine to a local bee-keeper over a bear that had been stealing his honey, national media said on Friday. The case came about after a man from the village of Krivogastani, near the town of Bitola, appealed to a local court, claiming damage to his property. He had initially tried to keep the bear away from his beehives by playing loud Serbian turbo-folk music. "I tried to distract the bear with lights and music because I had heard that bears are afraid...

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—John Daly woke up Wednesday morning to read that swing coach Butch Harmon fired him. I feel like I let Arnold down.” The wild ride of golf’s most unpredictable figure took another hairpin turn when Daly said he was given wrong information that caused him to...

All the world's a stage at some of Minnesota's bars. A new state ban on smoking in restaurants and other nightspots contains an exception for performers in theatrical productions. So some bars are getting around the ban by printing up playbills, encouraging customers to come in costume, and pronouncing them "actors." The customers are playing right along, merrily puffing away — and sometimes speaking in funny accents and doing a little improvisation, too. The state Health Department is threatening to bring the curtain down on these sham productions. But for now, it's on with the show. At The Rock, a...
