Which is to say they got on the phone, calling law enforcement agencies to see who might have a SWAT team available to bust the unsuspecting Calvo family. (It seems the police department's own team was tied up.) Judge Ronald Giles has ordered Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick into Wayne County Jail for violating his bond. The 36th District Court judge stressed that he was treating Detroit's mayor in the same way he would "John Sixpack." Judge Giles also revoked the mayor's ability to travel. The county Sheriff's Office SWAT team and narcotics officers raided the home of Mayor Cheye Calvo and his wife, Trinity Tomsic, after intercepting a package addressed to her that was filled with 32 pounds of marijuana. An attorney for the Mayor says the process server refused to leave the property when the mayor asked, so the process server was, "gently escorted off the porch by the Mayor."

Some residents said Thursday they wish they could recall the mayor over comments he made about state Sen. Louise Lucas’ proposed hotel and conference center, while she said she is considering scaling back her project. Earlier this week, the City Council voted to deny Lucas the use of up to $50 million of federal enterprise zone bonds. The bank-backed bonds would have provided Lucas with lower-cost financing. During the meeting, Mayor James W. Holley called the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel & Waterfront Conference Center a white hotel and said that Lucas’ project would have given the city a black hotel.

Two years ago, newly elected Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa vowed to put 1,000 more cops on the city's dangerous streets and proposed to raise trash collection fees to provide the money. "Every new dollar residents pay for trash pickup," the mayor promised in a city news release, "will be used to put more officers on the streets."
