A non-opus opus
I have recently emerged from the final stages of loss. Ive graduated from realization, numbness, denial, grief, anger, sadness and acceptance.
I am a strict-constructionist.
The Constitution, the Federalist Papers, the Anti-Federalist papers, the writings of our Founding Fathers provide me with all the evidence I need to understand our nations ascendancy to greatness.
But my side has lost. The opposition have redefined enough words and concepts in our Constitution that my point of view is now discounted as absurd by the vast majority of those whose votes have rendered my viewpoint meaningless.
I understand that the Constitution is dead and that it will never be re-instituted
at least not at the ballot box. Heck
not even through revolution, sorry TJ, there just arent enough of us. The sadness that accompanied this realization was almost debilitating
But I am happy again. I can enjoy the easiest life that has ever been available in the history of mankind. My life expectancy is longer than ever, I have a loving wife, ample food, air conditioning, heating, good homebrew, a great garden, no debt and a federal tax liability that is approaching zero
and we have no children, so I need not fear for their future.
I will live out my final years concentrating on selfish happiness, that which occurs squarely between my ears. I will still Freep, but only for enjoyment, not with any unrealistic expectation of substantial reform. While FreeRepublic has provided me with hope for our Republic that has proved to be unattainable, it has also provided me with friendships that I will value forever. And really, what higher praise could one offer?
Freeper highlights...I carried the Wisconsin flag in the opening ceremony of the MFJ which I attended with my brother and fellow Freeper. My wife (and fellow Freeper :{) ) and I also enjoyed the inaugural ball in DC, where Guinness flowed like water... update: 12/07 I came to this site, originally, as a supporter of the strict-constructionist conservative bent contained herein. From that perspective, as a true believer (yah, I know...) I can't help but support Ron Paul...he's a strict-constructionist, too. In the long run...nevermind....it's been fun, forward..
